I've been Robbed By lastminute.com

Always use a credit card for stuff like this. Much easier to get your money back

I normally use credit cards for purchase protection but if you are with a sympathetic customer orientated bank then it is for all intents and purposes very similar outcome with debit cards.

Just depends how much they a) value your custom and b) respect what you tell them.

RBS, great at this for example. BoS are terrible in comparison.

pretty sure you'll be fine, just follow the advice so far and get contacting you bank, report the transaction as fraud etc etc

Not online, but still relevant - mate drew £40 from a Barclay's cash point (his own bank). Card spat back out, no money drawn, but still showed up as £40 on his statement. He took it up with his bank and was reimbursed a few days later.

When I saw the thread title I was expecting it to be started by Shayper :p :o.

Hope it all works out for you OP, I'm sure they'll reverse the transaction within a couple of days :)

Chill winstan..... All transactions have n authorisation period before releas, just because your bank shows the transaction as a debit while it is still to be claimed by the merchant doesn't mean you have been robbed. Wait for the morning and speak to the bank just to get a heads up on what's happening with the transaction.
As for being robbed, well that's an overreaction and a half. It would appear last minute.com have suffered some kind of error. The transaction went for authorisation but their systems appear to have not finalised your booking request. In theory the booking will either be completed or their system will have no booking to pair the transaction with, and they will not claim the funds. Dependant on your bank and the speed at which last minute.com process this, you can see the money back as available funds in 24-72 hours.

Commonly know as misdispenses. Happens all the time when machines glitch. There was a story not long ago about a gang of frauds terms in India tricking cash points by asking for a wad of cash, and only pulling out some of the notes from the middle of the wad so the machine didn't realise the cash had been taken. After a minute it takes the cash back in and re-credits the account. Don't go trying this here, our machines are pretty smart, also this is considered theift if you get caught.

But i shouldn't have to do this as no transaction took place! I wanted somewhere for next week and now need to wait for this refund to appear before i can book somewhere. It's a con.

Call the bank and tell them that you don't know who they are, you don't know what they want; if they are looking for ransom, you can tell them you don't have money. But what you do have are a very particular set of skills; skills you have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make you a nightmare for people like them. If they let your money go now, that'll be the end of it. You will not look for them, you will not pursue them. But if they don't, you will look for them, you will find them, and you will kill them.

Call your bank and say you want to put that transaction in to dispute. They will handle the rest. Similar thing happened to me but when i called up the company that booked the tickets they said it was actually processed but there was a problem with their system.

Opposite happened to me recently. Paid Amazon £1k for a 16-35mm ii lens, money authorized, despatched, but then auth dropped off within a few days.

Phone CC and Amazon, CC confirming nothing taken, Amazon insistent the transaction went through and didn't seem to care.

Nothing for a few weeks then they took it out. Was half tempted to spend another 1.3k on a 85L :P

never thought of that, might try that :p

Having a system error is hardly a con now is it....the transaction taking place and the booking not completing due to what would appear to be a system error are two different things.

Good luck, the machines overhear are to smart.

Yep if a cash machine gives you the wrong amount take it up with your back, when the machine is checked it will be over by the amount people have reported usually, or more for those that don't...

Happened to me but it took ages to get the money, only bothered as the gf worked in the bank.

It's likely that the transaction was received by the bank even though it failed and they reserved the funds for payment (since there's no company name on that transaction I can only conclude that is the fact).

Just leave it for a few days and it should either disappear or the transaction will complete with the money being taken, and if the latter does happen then there would be a record of the transaction on the lastminute.com side of things which is likely to be the only time when they can refund the money.
