Non-alcoholic drinks

If I'm at a pub and I dont want to drink alcohol, my preferred drink would be a fresh orange and lemonade. Or a cranberry juice and lemonade. Very refreshing!

Afraid I can't really offer advice on non-alcoholic beer as I don't like any of them...
I don't drink alcohol at all now and tbh I can't even remember why I stopped, suppose like the OP it was the after effects that really done it.
I agree with RoyMi, stay well clear of draft softdrinks and you don't have to make excuses for not drinking.
1 thing I would say is watch out you don't become the taxi driver!!! It's nice to be nice to your mates but soon they start to expect it

Is going out for a few drinks not an option? It seems all or nothing is the answer on this thread. Perhaps stagger the drinking, one alcoholic beverage, then the next a non-achoholic beverage, rinse and repeat.

Monetry wise you're in the same boat, however the hangover can be reduced or indeed completely eliminated.

I stopped drinking 3 weeks ago. I was reasonable bad used to drink at home 3 or 4 days a week to "relax" which is crap to be honest and drank when ever I went out as well.

First week was kind of hard and then the second week was easy. Doesnt look like Ill be going back anytime soon. I fancy just being a social drinker but for special events. Not one my friends inviting me out for no special reason.

I feel loads better for it. The only thing I would warm people about was I seemed to wake up like I was hang over for most of the first week and part of the second even though I hadnt drank any beer. From reading thats a normal side affects for a detoxic. This depends on how long you have being heavily drinking and what condition your liver is in. Some people have these side affects for months going into years......

I hated that part of things because I was drinking about 3 litres of water a day so it wasnt dehydration just all the toxins leaving your body.

That's just it, I'm not going to fluff it or lie, but I don't have control over the amount I drink, just no self control at all. I just keep drinking.

It's an awful thing to admit, but I would rather cut it out completely for a while.

lime and soda is usually a good cheap soft drink, most places don't charge for soda water (unless they are really tight) and lime cordial is usually <50 pence.

Try Radegast Birrell, not sure on availability over in the UK but it's a 0.49% beer that's not bad at all, it's no Pilsner Urquell but it's still far better than garbage like Carling, Fosters etc.

Alcohol free cocktails are available in lots of places nowadays, or at least a barperson will be able to make a competent one. Though, I just poured myself a nice beer. :D

When I go on the wagon I just drink lime cordial and soda. Looks like I'm drinking a vodka based drink to the untrained eye. :)

So, I have recently decided to cut all alcohol out of my system, maybe a little at Christmas dinner, but in general. I don't need it to have fun.

However, I feel that I am being raped of my money in bars now, for coke that costs almost the same as a beer!

So, I was thinking, what are peoples views on non-alcholic beers? I'm tempted but I think my brain will be tricked into thinking I'm drinking then I will accidently order a normal beer.

Thoughts?

Lime and soda:

Can be had for tupence in most places, and serves the tastebuds as well as any other sugar-laden drink minus the mouth-scum, and it can be drank all night without getting that stomach full of juice feeling. Can also be discarded at minimum cost should that amazing beyonce song draw you inexorably towards the dance floor.

Either that, or if I'm feeling CRAZY, I'll start with a coke and then drink water all night. Water is pretty good, but it lacks flavour in most places.

E: too slow! But you can see that it is a popular drink.

Good Luck with this! :) Quit drinking ten months ago and feel much better for it.

YOu can also spice it up with soda and black or orange!

Tried Beck's Blue today. Was awful! :p

Might give Cobra Zero a go next time. Not really drinking at the moment but can't stand soft drinks.

Today is the 5 week anniversary of me giving up alcohol. I have been a lot more productive since I gave up, and my money situation is a lot better too. Overall I miss the social aspect slightly but overall it is all good.

Not yet tried any 'fake' beer since I stopped, and not really gone out into town or anything, don't want to tempt myself!

It is the way forward for a lot of people I think, got a bit of a drink problem so was forced to give up by friends, family and the other half.

All good though, good luck to others going for it too.

Erdinger and Budvar are the bet ones you will find in a pub. From the supermarket I like Bavaria, costs about 30p a can and I really have developed quite a taste for it. Becks blue is vile.

I don't really go out too much but when I do I think 'what is the point in getting drunk, I'm just going to feel awful tomorrow (and it's raping my bank balance)'. I've had my fair share of drunken nights out and hangovers.

The thing that I hate about not drinking is how everyone will give you funny looks or repeatedly ask you why you aren't drinking.
