I'm currently waiting for my SD card to come, and then I can finally Root and install Custom ROMS on my phone (Only a Samsung Galaxy Ace, but it suits my needs.)
I've narrowed it down to these two roms, but I don't know which one to pick (Being a fist timer n' all.)

Anyway, I basicly want nice performance and a good launcher (For customization.)
I just dunno what to pick :( I like the Acecream roms 'causes he's modded it to have Chrome and it's pretty simple, but I like the other one 'cause of the barebones options. Because im new to this, I don't know what overall is better, what would you pick?

And also, this got me thinking, what do you look for in ROM's?

I wouldn't choose a rom based on what apps come bundled with it, you can get them from the play store.

I'd go for the Barebones rom, the Ace will probably benefit a lot from removed bloatware :p

The problem with the Galaxy Ace is it runs an older ARM v6 processor, so Chrome needs to be patched to run on it. If you want Chrome, someone else might have posted an Ace-friendly version somewhere on XDA seperately so you probably don't need to choose your ROM based on it.

I go for ROMs with helpful mods - does it have a battery percentage display, will it let me set the notification light to flash as I wish, does it have the extended power menu.. that kind of thing. Battery life and speed are both important too. You should flash a few and experiment to find one you like though; there is usually quite a lot of choice.

Yeah bundled software is rubbish.

Main two points are
Vanilla experience, no skins, UI changes etc
And stability.

I so need a new rom for my ug802 but not anything out there stable at the moment.
One rom, but tis still having a few issues with wifi. And it allows you to turn of the stupid interface that comes on it. I would prefer if they totally removed it but that's fine. Other than that it has a reset option which is sorely needed. As only way ATM is to pull the plug.

Biggest thing is reading the thread and seeing what errors there are and how the modded is handling them, do new updates of the rom come out often. Or ip maybe on older devices, you can find a pretty much totally stable rom.

Whichever rom has the best combination of stability and power consumption with an as close to vanilla experience as possible is the one you want.

You modify aesthetics with apps and custom launchers. :)

For me?

Has to look and work as stock. I add anything extra I want myself.

So, best ROMs are based on and by default a stock experience, but come bundled with options/addons to customise how I wish.
