Would a 4gb GTX 670 be more future proof than a 2gb GTX 680?

I'm just wondering at the moment cos although my 680 can reach an overclock of 1300mhz and i ran this on 3Dmark11, i'm just wondering if it's worth going for a lower gtx 670 with 4 gb and overclock it to 680 and above speeds?

The games im playing at the moment don't really utilise the full potential of the gpu so sometimes i get the feeling im wasting the card away.

I can pick up a 4gb gtx 670 for less than £350 so im wondering if it's worth going for?

*Bare in mind i only game on a 24" monitor but will plan to get 2 more screens eventually*

Opinions, suggestions please?

The big question I suppose is, How many GPU's do you think you will end up using?

If tri/quad SLI is a very realistic option then the 4GB cards may benefit you over 3 screens in the long run.

But as it is at the moment, 2 x 670/680 2GB's will do you fine at 5760x1080 unless you spend endless hours modding the life out of Skyrim, in which case 4GB Nvidia cards or 3GB AMD cards may be a better option.

As you know i'm running a MATX platform and i have no plans to upgrade to a larger board so im stuck with crossfire options only.. (i know i have a nvidia gpu atm but my board only supports crossfire). So i either have to sell my current card to get an amd card and crossfire at a later date once i get my new screens or stick with nvidia and go for a larger memory card?

Can you see my dilemna? If i go crossfire i probs will have to water cool as well as my case is very small and tight.. either that or get 2 very very quiet cards.

How does crossfire 7870's compare to the single high end cards?

If you already have a 680, then there is no point buying a 4Gb 670 just because you may need it in the future. Think about it, if you get a 4Gb 670 now, it may end up being a complete waste of money changing cards, whereas if you just wait to see if you need one and simply get one then, then no money is wasted. I don't get the logic on changing cards to be more future proof when you can easily just change cards if and when you need to.

Also just noticed your signature says 11613 GPU score, meaning you beat my 7950 GPU score by one point :)

None of my 4gb 670s clock to anything like 1300 and reading round they generally don't (especially the factory / pre overclocked flavours) overclock particularly well

If I was you I'd stick with the 680

I would wait till you go surround and see if you can find acceptable settings on the
card you have b4 you change anything.

As others have said Tri Sli is required to fully benefit from the extra vram.
