Here's what happened:

Was driving the missus to her hairdressers early on Saturday morning, and the route is 30mph all the way - about 3 miles.
Now, this road often has mobile speed cameras - got caught doing 37 once before, and there was a bit of traffic too, so i was sticking to 30.
Before long I noticed a black Audi A1 right up my bumper, and I mean about 2m behind me. I really hate being tailgated, in the past I had two no-fault accidents due to aggressive and careless drivers so it really gets under my skin when I'm bullied on the road.
After about 2 miles the Audi overtook me - and I was quite glad about that.
Within seconds the Audi got caught behind an articulated lorry, and was doing about 15mph lol!
I could have kept my distance but, hey, why not give them a taste of their own medicine I thought...?
I stupidly went right up the Audi's back end, and they were effectively sandwiched between me (driving the wife's Micra btw) and the lorry.

When we reached the salon and parked up, regrettably the Audi also parked up and out stepped my wife's hair dresser :(

I got an earful afterwards about how I'm the aggressive driver etc
The hairdresser was apparently quite frightened and the whole thing was almost an ordeal for her.

What annoys me is that she played the sympathy card, making out that an aggressive male driver intimidated a poor youn woman...

What do you think of this situation??

Why engage?

Pointless, you brought it on yourself, you did drive aggressively and have only yourself to blame.

'But she started it' is the realm of schoolchildren, not responsible adults.

So she hung off your bumper looking to overtake and you blocked her in behind a lorry, tailgating both but not the same thing.. You really should have known better imo.

she sould have brake tested you and claimed for whiplash saying you were speeding and caught out by the articulated lorrys speed and you didnt give yourself enough time to slow down :P

just because someone else is a bit of an idiot on the road doesnt mean everyone should be lead be example and maybe driving standards of others will reflect this

You're all right, and I freely admit I was stupid
But as soon as she mentioned feeling intimidated all public opinion ruled in her favour
Lesson learned, and I'm lucky I guess it didn't end considerably worse for all involved

I'd have congratulated her on being a complete **** and taken my custom elsewhere. Best way to teach idiots like that a lesson.

But then you shouldn't have risen to it.

A good lesson, take heed, back off & chill out.

Its easy to assume who you are dealing with, but nigh impossible to accurately get it spot on.

I hope it wasn't a Stobart artic.... ;)

She wouldn't have had a clue that she was even tailgating you, and you just have to learn to share the road with these people without sandwiching them up against arctics.

If someone is being overtly agressive behind me I just change up a few gears and let them inhale some lovely decat carcinogens.

just another moron driver

the other week i was driving home from work and notice yet another moron driving a few mm from by rear bumper, completely normal in essex, just ignored it

then as the traffic broke up a bit the driver shoots past on my near side (i wasnt in the left hand lane as i could see traffic in the left hand lane stationary a short distance ahead)

i spotted it was a new guy at work driving the car

the next day at work he pipes up "i saw you on the XYZ, im suprised you werent speeding"

my reply was "im suprised you didnt crash into the back of me you were so close"

he had no idea what i was talking about. he was aware that he does it but completely unaware of why

the moron agreed that it made no sense, it made driving more of a chore but "he does it because if he didnt, someone else would do it to him"....

thats the level of moron youre having to deal with

The only thing I understand less than why you'd do something that stupid is why you'd then want to tell other people you'd done it

should have just left her be.

All it took was her to slam her brakes on and you go piling into the back of her. Ba bye no claims.

if someone is right on my bumper i usually just tap the brakes enough just so the lights come on :p

but i was driving before in a 30 and a cop car pulled out behind me and was tailgating me... literally was so close i couldn't see the glare of his headlights (was at night) through my rear view mirror.... I then pulled of the road as it was making me un easy with him there. i came back onto the main road later on and he was waiting for me and pulled me for suspicious driving.

he asked me why was i trying to avoid him as i took a different road then rejoined. I told him that i felt un easy and intimidated with him following me so closely and that i felt i was in his way..... he just laughed at me and said "wrong answer" and continued to go through the standard check all my details, searched the car, searched me, asked if i had been drinking and such...

after about 15 mins of this and asking me several times why I pulled of the main road and me telling him repetitively that I felt in his way and intimidated he just couldn't understand this....telling me that what i did usually means the person has something to hide like they are drunk or its a stolen vehicle or got no insurance. he just didn't get it that i didn't want to be tailgated.

he then let me go.... he then followed me...still close behind all the way off to the turning my house was on.

cops ay :p
