Spec me some tyres please!

For my BMW E46 320cd Coupe:

Front: 225/40/18
Back: 255/35/18

What would you guys recommend? anything I should stay away from? I'm after a mid-range set, nothing to break the bank please! :D

Eagle F1 Assymetric 2 or Contisport Contact 5. Both excellent and reasonably priced, pick whichever you like the look of best as they seem to trade places at the top of the various tyre tests.

F1A2's are £526 delivered from Lovetyres.

Depends on budget really, I have always gone mid range as I found them to perform fine for me and the way my mr2 used to chew through tyres I didn't want to spend a fortune every time I needed replacements.

Falken fk452's and federals are my usual choices.
 
Both over-rated by people who want to think they've not bought them because they are cheap IMHO. With lovetyres offering such good deals on F1A2's why bother with Falkens or Federals?
 
Slightly cheaper option, but still pretty decent, Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta, paid £135 for mine in 255/35/18, lovely amount of grip for what i've played with, useless in the snow though(aren't most?)
 
To be fair, it is not a high powered coupe, for most driving you would be OK with "non-performance" tyres. (i.e. Falkens would be fine)

Yea I forgot, you only need good tyres if you drive a fast car. You never need to drive in torrential rain etc etc in non fast cars.

Maybe just slow down and be cautious in torrential rain?
 
Fair enough, just saying that for the majority of people Falkens would do. I know you uber love buying premium and then arguing with anyone who doesn't agree so I will leave it.

For the record I rock RE050As.
 
I've just traded CSC3s for Falken 452s on the back of my 325ti, primarily due to the fact they work out about 50% cheaper (from a tame dealer @ £84 each) and should wear at least as well as the Contis - which only lasted 9k miles before they started feeling lairy. They won't be quite as good as the Contis (and were properly unruly before they scrubbed in) but plenty good enough to handle 200bhp. If you're going much higher than that though, I'd definitely go with a more 'premium' tyre.

My car has always really been a second car as I kind of live at work so tend to push bike in. I just have always used falkens, federals with no problems so I just stuck to them. Should maybe try some other brands out really.
 
Just had a set of F1A2s on the rear of the M5, replaced the 452s that were no means crap in the dry would light up the DSC quite easily off the line in damp conditions, the Goodyears are simply amazing and were only 15 quid or so dearer.
