Firstly I have not decided whether to go Nvidia or AMD but for gaming am I better getting say two 660/7950s than one 670/7970?

Realistically if I go for two I will purchase one now and another at Christmas.

I am happy to go up to around £350 for a single higher end card or £200ish region if purchasing two.

Please can I have some advice :)

What motherboard have you got? Are you running more than one monitor?

If you have the ability to run dual 16x pcie the crossfire would be a better solution.

If it were me I'd get the high end one if your only running one monitor:) or if you only have one 16x pcie:)

If you have more monitors or dual 16x I'd imagine the cr/sli solutions to be better:)

Not sure on your system but at the moment the 7950 is the best card to get and if you still want, add another at christmas.

A 7970 is compared to a 680 where as a 7950 is on par with a 670.

If I had to chose il go for single card less problems and that would be a 7950 and oc it and save your self the cash. since the new driver the amd 7 series cards have really improved.

In some harder working titles you may have to turn down a few of the settings to use the full potential of the 120hz.

SLI/CF would give you much more fps.

I have always been a fan of Nvidia but it seems that the new AMD driver has pushed people towards the AMD. Is it likely that Nvidia will combat this now that the cards are similiar in performance and the AMD significantly cheaper?

This is what everyones hoping but we all doubt it.

Nvidia has gotten greedy over the years and has a lot of companies, big ones at that behind them so they think they can charge what they want and why shouldnt they? a lot of people will still play stupid prices for there cards.

I have been with Nvidia since forever really and just changed this year to ATI/AMD. The 7850 was a massive surprise for me for £150 card! I got 4x games with it too and it runs everyone at 1920x1200 pretty much maxed. I went from a GTX 285 so i was a few years behind but the 285 was like £400 around that time and couldnt play **** at max even back then!! Its a good card i think if the 285 was dx11 and had 2gb vram it could put up a good fight but thats where it fails.

If the 7850 can play pretty much all at max, the 7950 for £100ish more is a very good long term investment. The only reason i never went 7950 is because my PC is old and ill buy a full new one next year.

Well said I have always been a nvidia fan boy my self since I was 12 playing black hawk down and CSS I'd go for nvidia and I'm 21 now lol. Last week I decided to upgrade my 570 gtx and the prices of a 660ti was just unreal, why spend 250 pounds for a card that matches a 7870 performance which is about 180 pounds? And in most cases a 7870 oc can out perform a 660. Taking all into an account I chose the msi 7950 for £239 and got four free games and i saved my self the money by not getting a 670 gtx which is priced at 320 ish.

Nvidia really have to change. Looking all over this forum I'm seeing countless of people mentioning the move from nvidia to amd! I have even got my brother to leave his 560 behind and get a 7 series card .

Well, a 660 non ti is more like a 7870, and they are cheaper than 7870s.

Also yet another thread which just de-rails to the usual debate.
