Hello All,

I have purchased a set of Shimano Deore M596, pre bled and ready to go, but after fitting them to my bike i have found that the hose is far too long.

So i need to cut them down and re add oil etc?

I have never done anything like this, is there any simple tutorial out there or would it be easier to cut it down reconnect everything and pay someone else to bleed them?

you dont need to re bleed shimanos, 8 mm spanner, undo the nut at the lever, snip cable, fit new olive and hose needle, screw back into lever with 8mm spanner,

enjoy the fact that your brakes arnt Avids :)

Nice brakes. And yes, you shouldn't need to re-bleed. Unlike my filthy filthy Avids.

And in case you do want to bleed them (for lols) hit up youtube. Lots of tutorials.

This is brilliant, Thanks for the info.

oh also whats best to cut them with?
Its okay to cut even after i have them all set up on the bike?
Thanks!

you need a stanley knife with a brand new blade on it, dont "saw" the cable instead use a firm movement to "slice" it in 1 move

no worries, full job should take no more than 5 mins :)

the yellow blocks you would have got in the box with the brakes are for crimping the black cable tight to allow you to tap in the new needle.
