*****Official Star Wars: The Old Republic Thread*****

Not sure why people are complaining so much about the F2P option. The game will cost what, £15? And for that you can play through all of the class stories which really makes this a bit of a bargain, especially for those looking for more of a KOTOR type game.

However I don't agree at all with silly things like retricting the amount of action bars you get, that's just dumb. Players should have full access to everything "single player" about the game but restrict the actual MMO aspect. I'm hopeful this will be a fantastic change to the game and I can genuinely see lots of people who buy this as a single player game converting over once they get a taste.

Looking at the game now almost one year since launch and it really is in good shape (pvp balance aside), 4 operations to get through and a decent number of flashpoints, 2 world events (and another's been data mined) and with the cartel coin shop there'll finally be the "fluff" that gives the game another dimension.

On the point of pvp balance, the balance issues with juggs / maras smash spec might actually help F2P. Warrior is an incredibly popular class and considering the effort to output ratio of this spec I can a lot of newbies picking it up quickly and hopefully getting sucked into paying for the game.

Then I hope they nerf them to the ground: Operative style.

Because other FTP MMO's like LotRO for example allow you to download the game for free iirc and you spend your money on Turbine points which can be used to get expansion packs, quest content and other things from the store, but i agree, £15 is a good price tag.

Because EA and BioWare know that for this game, you need 4 action bars and i need all them for the amount of skills you get as you progress, and people will more than likely either cave in if they like the game enough or want a better experience, and the people who don't will just leave. The last time i had so many skills was when i was an Officer in SWG and i ended up writing up macros to set things off because their was just too much to click.

It is, my brother who stopped subscribing to this game was watching me play it on my Gunslinger going through Coruscant, he was tempted to come back because it looked better as well as myself describing what had changed and been adjusted.

Mainly the balance issues are people who reroll FOTM classes because in my opinion, they simply can't take losing and find an alternative way to take them out, because whether they're FOTM or not, there is always a way of taking someone out and if you can't find that, just get some of your friends/guild to gank the **** out of them. ;)

Ahahaha wait, this spec was used within one month of release by the masses and still, nearly a year on it hasn't been nerfed? WOW!
I really would love to come back to the game, I miss some parts of it but I'll wait to see how people react to the introduction of F2P/Cash Shop, are they still keeping subscriptions as well?

Edit: Ah yes they have.

I have only seen them advertise one price for the subscription model, $14.99. It works out about £9.50. Two beers in some pubs around London. :( Well worth it IMO :)

They actually buffed it.

We have a "post your best warzone damage" thread on another forum and literally every top damage is smash jugg or mara. Not shocking seeing as they're hitting bis pvp'rs with 7k aoes.

Have no fear though, bioware made a post on the official forums saying they're "keeping a close eye on it". Should have gone to specsavers by the looks of it.

May come back to this just for the free to play aspect, means i can do all the class stories on my own at my own pace.

I last played this game in Feb, and Ive been reading back through this thread for changes since then.

Have many improvements been made to the game engine? One of my previous bugbears was the delay on some abilities.

Also what do people do at level 50? My highest level is 48. Is it all dungeons and pvp? Or are there more planets to explore?

Thanks

I hated the delay on ability issue but in all honesty it's pretty much gone now. Personally I get phantom GCD's occasionally but even that has been reduced to the point where it's a rarity these days and I think it's my own fault for spamming the bejeezus out of my buttons.

At 50 there's daily quests to repeat but in terms of proper content you're looking at flashpoints, operations and pvp. A new planet is being introduced at some point soon too, don't think it's in 1.5 though I might be wrong with that.

In terms of content it's at least on par with current content wow and in bioware's defensive they have been steadily releasing content so no 12 months of nothing like wow. The latest operation released has received a lot of very positive feedback and with the inclusion of story mode you'll be able to experience it even with a fairly poor group.

Pvp, especially ranked pvp, is a bit borked at the moment unless of course you have a FOTM class but even as a lowly concealment operative I can still do quite well although that's mainly from me being awesome.

This game worth a shot?
Do you guys play together?

I bore of WoW pretty easily lol, think its the fantasy setting, not my thing.

Thanks. Im in 2 minds about whether to go back to it.

Out of curiosity do you do solo pvp with your operative or organised? I had a level 30 Scoundrel (scrapper) I used to pvp with, similar to your char I think.

Found it difficult though, especially as I prefer to go it alone mostly.

Anyone from the Immortals guild still playing? And what server are UK people on these days? I understand there was some kind of server merge. Game needed it...on my server when last I logged in, there was 14 people on Republic Fleet.....and I dont think it was the 2nd instance....hehe.

I'm on the PVE server The Red Eclipse although from what I've read pvp is more active on this server than the actual pvp one. If you were originally on a PVE server then you'll automatically be migrated to The Red Eclipse, it is an active server with 2 instances of the fleet active at most times.

Scrapper scoundrels are the ginger step child of dps at the moment, they're great in low level pvp though so you'll enjoy that at least and maybe by the time you hit 50 we'll have gotten a buff. I wouldn't hold my breath on that though!

I pvp both solo, in a group and in ranked. Look the class can be made to work in ranked but there are easier and frankly better options to take. Seeing as you're level 30 it wouldn't really be that big of a deal to reroll a different class if you wanted to. All that said I LOVE the mechanics of the class and that's why I still play it, they're fun to play but really don't expect people to be begging you to join their team (unless you spec heals, scoundrel healer is the best at the moment).

Got a chance to play this morning and im getting patcher unavailable and this for their website

cant even connect to SWTOR.com Oops! Google Chrome could not find www.swtor.com
Suggestions:
Search on Google:

Nothing about it on twitter... Is it Virgin Media ?!?!?

Are they East coast USA ? Flooded out maybe ??

Was playing it at 6am-7am this morning.

Edit: Just did a google search, everyone is experiencing issues, if you're ingame at the moment the issue occurred, you can still play, but if you logout to go and do something and come back to the game to login, then you can't unfortunately.

BioWare haven't said anything regarding as to what could be causing the issue.
