Hey all, i'm in the market for some 2.1 speakers but what i'm looking for specifically is something with a bit of punch to the bass, without being too expensive, i'm willing to go up to £70/80 if they're really that good, and if thats starting to approach decent 5.1 territory too then i'm happy for suggestions there as well :), I want the punch from the bass for gaming mainly, explosions, feeling of impact etc, stuff like that, as well as occasionally using them to listen to music so any recommendations would be huuugely appreciated thank you :)

Just look at what overclockers stock at that price point and take your pick. It all sounds fairly similar until you spend a bit more money im afraid (my opinion). If you can find the Acoustic Energy Aego M for just a smidge over 100 notes like they used to be they would blow anything out of the water at that price point.

At your price point 5.1 is a waste of time, the same amount of money has to be split across 6 channels meaning very low sound quality. If it was me buying with 80 quid, id get some 2.0 speakers, probably edifiers1600 i think they are called.

I'd go with 2.1 speakers. People looking for punchy bass whilst gaming, often end up being disappointed with 2.0 speakers.

I'd certainly forget about 5.1 speakers. As mentioned above, cheap and nasty, unless you spend quite a bit more cash. Only get 5.1 speakers if you absolutely must have them.

At that price you might want to look for a second hand Acoustic Energy Aego M 2.1, it might not be as exciting as you're hoping for but it's a very good bit of kit.

*edit* Probably should have read the existing replies first, never mind!

JBL Creature 1 2 or 3. Good speakers, look good and can give plenty of bass. You can get them for £60 ish if you hunt around.

If you can push the boat out a little further and don't mind 2nd hand then Bose companion 2's or 3's have a lovely sound for their size.

I heard a set of Soundsticks at a big computer superstore recently and was very impressed for the size of them.

Got a set of Corsair SP2500's on the way as an RMA upgrade to my SP2200's on the way so will report back once they have been set up. Quite pricey but look good on paper.
