Has anyone ever participated in this activity? Is there a Mushroom picking society where I can find local fields and can pick some shrooms for free and also avoid poisonous varieties?

P.S I want to spread my wings and taste Mushrooms apart from the slimy ones you get from supermarkets/local superstores in a punnet for a pound.

Probably safer to go to a farmer type market where people in the know have picked non deadly mushrooms

Good luck finding non slimy mushrooms though

best to buy a proper book or book yourself on a local bushcraft course most do a day scavenging course which includes mushrooms adn can show you which is best to eat etc

Ignore any reading material on the subject, ALL mushrooms are safe to eat. All of them. Honest.

Yes I have :)

Not for many years though

I would suggest taking someone or atleast get a good knowledge and PID (Positive ID on your chosen choice)

I don't think you can miss Id the standard field mushroom and puff balls, haven't done it for a while.
Use to see them when out with work and had a few.
Need to go find some though. Not only do you get fresh mushrooms. But it's something to do and gets you out the house. Something I can do when off work, when everyone else is in work. Just need my motorbike back on the road.

I got myself this

Scrap what I just said

Death caps and destroying angels are particularly safe to eat.

Joking aside, is there any other thing, animal, mineral or vegetable with a name that says 'imma #@&$ you up' more than destroying angel? Evil things.
