The op, you were both in the wrong & if the other driver was a bloke such as yourself that would have been the end of it.

I think you felt a little guilty driving at 30 on a road that should be a 40 holding everyone else up in a Micra. Sadly you broke driving rules number 1 and 2, lost the plot and turned into the type of driver you dislike yourself.
The Woman in the Audi was probably just trying to get to work on time and not really doing anything wrong from her point of view. But like a lot of drivers she sounds like has no clue how to time her overtaking properly.
As the artic driver said, chill out and worry about whats in front of you because you could have ended up with a fault claim.

I don't think the OP is an idiot at all. What he did was a bit idiotic, but who hasn't done something a bit silly on the road when the red mist descends?
Seriously, Motors can be so crushingly "holier than thou" at times and it just makes the entire place just feel dishonest and like everyone has to say the same thing, or face being flamed. The way people act on here is like they have never done anything wrong/stupid on the roads and they berate those who post about times they've been a bit silly, but have learnt from it. If he had been boasting, then yes, flame away, but he came on here, cap in hand, and admitted he was wrong.
I freely admit i have had moments on the road where i've come close to losing my temper with other drivers. Never anywhere near the point of getting out of the car or anything like that, but a flash of the lights, a beep of the horn and a few swear words to myself. And anyone who has driven for a decent length of time, who tries to argue differently is lying.

I've done plenty of stupid things on the roads but never once got angry with another driver, I sigh sometimes, maybe even roll my eyes to the sky, but I don't tailgate, beep my horn or flash my lights.
We all have different reactions to stressful situations so I don't judge anyone who does get the red mist but it's equally naive to assume every single person in the world is the same as you.
No one is trying to pretend they haven't been stupid on the road before but when someone pretty much asks 'Was this a stupid thing to do?', i'm not going to sit here and tell him it wasn't, he was wholly in the right, and that tailgating people as retaliation is sensible behaviour to engage in on the roads.
He did not come here 'cap in hand' and admit he was wrong, he came here and asked us what we thought of the situation. If you honestly expect anyone to sit here and say anything other than 'You were stupid to do it' then you're absolutely mental.
Personally, i'm glad this isn't a forum where we would condone behaviour like tailgating people and brake testing people to get 'revenge' on the roads, just because some posters are of the opinion that 'we all do it from time to time'.
The way that some people have said things suggests that they have never done anything wrong on the road. Of course it was a stupid thing to do. The OP even says in his opening post "i stupidly went up behind the Audi" which means he knows he did a stupid thing.
He never did anything other than admit being silly. He never tried to justify his actions. He never argued that it was a clever thing to do. Why did it take 2 pages of comments like "omg, you're a moron" or "you sound like an idiot"? He knows this. Some people just wanted to pile it on for some strang pleasure they get out of belittling people and making people think that they can do no wrong.
I too am glad that this forum doesn't condone driving like that, but there is a fine line between not condoning it and just being a *****. I think people forget themselves on this forum sometimes and because they are behind a screen, they use it to be short, cold, harsh and unfriendly. This is meant to be a friendly online community, but it certainly doesn't feel like it sometimes.
Have you ever got a bit angry on the road? I certainly have.

What you elect to infer in peoples posting is your lookout, but just because you've chosen to view everyone's posts with a certain inflection, doesn't necessarily mean that's how they wrote the post.
Why did it take 2 pages of comments like that? Because he asked what everyone thought - when people ask you what you think, you tend to tell them what you think. In the case, rightly so, most people thought he was being stupid. The other option I suppose is that we all just don't contribute to threads asking our opinions?
It's the internet, if you're ever going to find harsh blunt comments it's on the internet. If you want people to be softly softly, then it's not really the place to go.
Like anyone, yes i've been angry on the roads. By and large I try to just vent my anger by shouting and swearing at them (even though they can't hear). That way I get it out of my system but at the same time i've not engaged whoever annoyed me in any sort of daft behaviour and caused myself further risk. Seems the easiest solution to those moments where 'just let it go' doesn't quite cut it.
