This is my first Blu-ray player ( Sony BDP-S185 ) so im not sure if this is normal, or to some extent normal. When a disc is playing there is a high pitch noise from what i assume is the disc spinning - the problem is that it is very noticeable and actually makes me feel sick. It seems to be more noticeable and worse at the beginning of the films but is there constantly.

So is this normal or is there a problem with the player ? i understand that everyone's hearing is different but even my wife commented on the noise from the player and how irritating it is and that it was actually spoiling the films.

Thanks

I have had that on my player it did it when new and hasnt done it since.

It did it on one of the matrix discs - what film was it on for you?
Have you checked if there is a firmware update?

I have a Sony blu ray player and its also annoying when playing a blu ray and has always made this noise when playing any disc. I'm after a replacement if anyone knows of any that are quiet?

Basically every Film to varying degrees - Blu-ray films seem to be the worst tho'. Like i said its so bad at times it actually makes me feel nauseous.

If not take it back as I dont think it should a noise that will make you feel sick

Get a Panasonic they are highly rated, or Pioneer better but cost more.
Other options are Denon / Marantz expensive again

Most players make a whirring or whine kind of noise when playing a disc, some more than others. Also depends on the user. Some people are more sensitive to certain noise levels or pitches than others.

I've got a S370, which I can hear when a disc is spinning. It's pretty quiet IMO, and only really noticeable when there is no volume. Even with moderate volume, I never notice it. Of course though, what is acceptable to me, may not be to someone else.

Have you got an electrical retailer near you? You could pop in and ask them to play a disc in a few different models, then you can get an idea if some are worse than others, or if it's just in general the noise BD players make, gets on your wick. If you bought the player online, would be a pain to get another player, only to find that no better.
