So are all phone prices gonna tumble now?

why wouldnt they just release a 64GB or expandable storage? if the idea is to sell as many products as possible surely it is a no brainer?

If the Nexus4 had come with an microsd slot it would have rendered every other phone pretty much obsolete for the majority of people.

Plus the other phone manufacturers would have been slightly irked at Google too.

Google will no doubt release a 32gb version in 6months time, just like they did with the Nexus7, so buying a 16gb one now & selling later might not be a bad option.

Just need to see how the camera & audio quality are in the reviews next.

I doubt it, it is very nicely speced for the price.
But it has its limitations, mainly storage.
It's also not much higher speced than other phones at that price. Larger res and larger ram.

Hopfully what it will do however is bring the next round of phones minimum spec up. Remeber things like galaxy 3 have been out a while and I expect the 4 to beat those specs. It's fairly standard internals.

Oh and as for giffgaff, now they are raising the price, I woud rather go with three.£ 12.90 for unlimited data, far faster speeds and can add tethering for an extra £5

I think it shows wat I've been saying the basic phone spec has pretty much reached its peak and there's little point upgrading. Only reason I'm getting rid of ip4 is due to changing ecosystems. Otherwise there's still no way I would change to ip5.

Screen size and dpi are more than large enough and some may try doing more to sell due to spec sheet numbers. But it's going to make zero real world differnce.

2Gb of ram is more than enough for all three systems currently.

S4 is a very capable chip, this will be superceded and will be on area top end phones can differentiate. But untill we start seeing more power hungry apps, then it's a bit useless.

I think MS with the surface and Nokia with the 920 have given us a glimpse of where the future top sec phones lie and it's not differentiating on dpi or ram. It's things like the optically bonded screen, more robust chassis with vapourMG, Image stabilizing on the camera, wireless charging. Those sorts of things and one which I haven't seen any one implamnet. That nano waterproofing which was showen off at CES.

The hardware is more than adequate for the Current OS. iOS will need to be rebuilt to need more power. Wp8 and android as they are based on desktop OS should be easier thinking of ways to use extra ram and the next gen ARM chips. But that's if any of those features are needed or wanted on a phone.

That is a good point about the other manufacturers.. alas the perfect phone is missed once again

+1 to all of this. If they made a 32/64GB model if would murder the competition, assuming the camera is upto snuff.

Then again most people have phone's on contracts so a lot of people would still just buy the phone they want as the cost is spread out.

Just read that O2 have the Nexus4 as an exclusive for 1 month, so contract buyers will need to wait a bit longer for one.

My point was buying this phone on contract only makes sense if the contract is hella cheap, otherwise they'd just get the phone they really want. Average Joe perspective here.

Nexus 4 (£239) + Three 6.90/mo Essential internet sim (12 months) + £41.67 cashback via Quidco

= £280 for a top spec handset (provided you don't need the memory) plus decent contract for 12 months.

Madness!

I can see it being cheap from the point of view that, hopefully, you don't need to pay £50-£100 upfront on a £25 per month contract, as you had to with the One X, S3, etc.

If phone shops still try and charge extra upfront for the Nexus over a 2 year contract they deserved to be punched.

But they will no doubt.

yeah if you can get away with the space its epic.

still think if you get on contract you wont get the saving past down.

This phone was always going to be a consideration for me, but at that price, its the clear winner.

I'll be getting it ASAP :)

I'm going to grab the sim only deal from 3 for £9.90 that's on the previous page.

Does anyone know if I select micro sim will it come as a double sim, with the regular sim on the outside and micro on the inside? ..... I need to use it in my S2 for 2 weeks :p

Sure is. Can you also get the cash back if you add 'All-you-can-eat data' for £3 to that?

show me another phone for 280quid that comes BRAND NEW and sim free with similar performance? please do.

Lol...........The CPU/GPU only destroys the competition. Won't see anything beating this until the GS 4 with exynos 5, which is like another 7 months away.

Only other phones, with 2GB RAM are the note II and GS 3 LTE and they cost twice as much.

Screen is as good as the X, iphone 5

wireless charging

Will have insane battery life, not as good as the note II, but it should be better than the GS 3 and one S.

Only disadvantage for some people is the storage and the camera might not be as good as the S/X and GS 3/note II

and all for £280!

As said by grudas, find another phone anywhere in the same league for that price.

No idea, but you can buy micro sim to full size sim adapters on ebay for 99p delivered (quite handy to have in the future too).

Htc 8s for ~210

As I said it has far more ram and better resolution screen and more storage and a few other upgrades. I also said it was a very good priced phone. But it isn't that unexpected trying to minimize impact of cheape wp8 phones that are launching, first real competition in games as apple do not do cheap phones, it will hopfully increase the minimum spec of cheap phones, which is good for everyone. But I can't see it ending or reducing price of new top end phones, as there are still so many features that can be added. Most of them however are no longer performance related though.
