What type of bike was it? Keep checking eBay and PinkBike, just to see if it comes up. I'm not sure if there is much in the way of sales of roadys (I'm assuming that's what it is) on PinkBike, but you might see it.

My hike was recently stolen so I thinking of getting a cheap second hand bike and putting a tracking device on it and leaving it unchained in the hike shed. The next scumbag that nicks it will be in foe a surprise when the police turn up to take them away for questioning.

I was looking into making a GPS tracker for my bike out of a cheap Android phone. I need something smaller after I concluded the only way I could mount it was with duct tape. Perhaps some sort of clever camouflage is in order.

i have 2 bikes so i know how you feel, unfortuantly here i cant put inside the house, cant put in the shed, so its locked outside with a cover over it

If you can find or create something small enough the seat post tube would be an ideal place to mount something.

You'd be better off with a purpose made tracker for £100.

This is the Kryptonite New York M18 and takes 5 minutes to cut through with an angle grinder which is a lifetime for a thief (and you can't open it with a Bic pen either ).
The cable is only 12mm though so if somebody can link to something better I'd appreciate it.

Kinda shows that even an angle grinder doesn't draw attention in a busy city.

The best way to keep an expensive bike safe, is not to use it for commuting, get a cheap pile of junk instead.

An angle grinder or blowtorch won't do anything to a decent lock. You'd need a plasma cutter to get through one.
