Hopefully Gregster will see this thread. He did do some benches with his 680s, but the pictures seem to be missing (OCUK Benchmark thread)

I'm not too clued up on 3D (AMD here) so wouldn't know how much if any the CPU plays a role.

Curious as to why you suggest a 23" screen with AMD and a 27" screen with Nvidia, £300 difference seems to make it an unfair contest?

YOUR BASKET
1 x Asus VG278H 27" TRUE 120Hz 3D Widescreen LED Monitor with NVIDIA 3D Vision 2.0 Glasses - Black £499.99
1 x EVGA GeForce GTX 670 FTW 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card (02G-P4-2678-KR) £319.99
Total : £834.08 (includes shipping : £11.75).

This monitor has the 3D Vision 2 emitter built in. I love the monitor and works great for me. The only downside I can see is, I can't goto AMD without losing 3D.

Nvidia 3D works very well and is basically 'plug and play' The Lightboost is a very good addition, as it makes the whole 3D thing more vibrant and not so dark (the older V1 Nvidia 3D vision).

The 27" Sammies are hard to come by ATM and he can't link to competitors

This, plus it's not a £300 difference, it's a £130 difference, monitor to monitor.

It's not my fault Nvidia make you pay for the 3D glasses and the privilege to own a performance comparable Nvidia gpu in todays market.;)

The £300 was the difference between the two suggestions you gave, so it could be argued that you chose a monitor that was dearer than needed, hence why I asked why a 27" for one and a 23" for the other.

On the second point of Nvidia charging you for the 3D glasses, yup they do and they are not particularly cheap either I agree, but to be fair that HIS card you suggested doesn't come with the Tridef software according to the HIS website, so that is another expense to add on. ( $50 by the looks of it)

so you could be looking at this sort of difference still expensive but much closer I think you'll agree.

1 x KFA2 GeForce GTX 670 EX OC 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £299.99
1 x Benq XL2410T 24" TRUE 120Hz 3D Widescreen LED Monitor - Black £259.99
1 x NVIDIA 3D Vision Kit with Duke Nukem Forever £69.95

Or the AMD route, don't forget to add the price of the Tridef software.

YOUR BASKET
1 x Samsung S23A750D 23" 120Hz 3D Widescreen Ultra Thin LED Monitor - Glossy Black £269.99

Total : £523.48 (includes shipping : £11.25).

Tridef is included in the sammy buddy. I also believe tridef is more vivid (I got a bargain on the sammy). as I've compared both. 3dvision2 was brighter but not as detailed. Kinda spoiled it

Do you use 3D bru?

Inferior glasses by going down the original 3D vision kit route- the Sammies and the 3D vision 2 kit use the same output rendering on the glasses-short version, the sammy has similar brightness levels to light boost.

I already explained my choice of hardware:

This, plus it's not a £300 difference, it's a £130 difference, monitor to monitor.

That still made the Nvidia route £170 more expensive.

If it makes you happier, here is a revised choice using 2/3rds of your build:

1 x KFA2 GeForce GTX 670 EX OC 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £299.99
1 x Benq XL2410T 24" TRUE 120Hz 3D Widescreen LED Monitor - Black £259.99
1 x NVIDIA GeForce 3D Vision 2 New Wireless Glasses & IR Emitter Kit £109.99
Total : £684.07 (includes shipping : £11.75).

1 x Samsung S23A750D 23" 120Hz 3D Widescreen Ultra Thin LED Monitor - Glossy Black £269.99

£160 is still a hefty premium in my book, so I'll say it again:

It's not my fault Nvidia make you pay for the 3D glasses and the privilege to own a performance comparable Nvidia gpu in todays market.;)

(Just noticed OcUK are charging a 50p premium too:eek:):D

As Laher stated above, Tridef comes bundled with the Sammy, there is no extra outlay, that's how it isn't in the spec.

I have zero input on what's 'better' having not used Nvidia 3D, just answered a thread with the best of my knowledge, but from what I hear, from users that have used both-at the very least, Tridef is a very, very close second to 3D Vision.

No I don't use 3D.
I didn't know that the Tridef software came with the monitor so that is defiantly a good thing.
I wasn't trying to say that the Nvidia option is better or worse, I was just curious about the two price points you previously suggested.
You are quite right though the £160 premium over the AMD setup is certainly to much especially as it's my understanding as well that the Tridef 3D is nearly just as good as Nvidia's 3D vision.

Am i right in saying that the monitor will either support the AMD tridef or the nvidia 3d and not both?

Had my heart set on 27" but id rather buy from here so it would be a case of settling for 24" and AMD or going to nvidia and a 27" if the above is correct.

Thanks for all the input so far

I play BF3 in 1080p 120hz 3D with a pair of 7950's on a Samsung 700D. I tried a single card but I was getting a few drops here and there.

Would you be willing going to the MM for a monitor? The 27" sammies are fantastic, I'd certainly go for one of those over the 23" if it's what you want

PS - your sig's a line too long :)

yeah id prefer a 27" so if it comes to it i suppose i would, unless overclockers are planning on stocking them soon :)

Would really like to know the answer to this though as it will mean sticking to one gfx card manufacturer for a while.

The Samsungs can do both AMD/Nvidia in Tridef as it's a true native 3D onboard= anything can be rendered in 3D via onboard conversion(but isn't as good as Tridef/ingame native options like Sleeping Dogs).

AMD is full FS 60+60fps@1080p, while Nvidia's locked out to side by side(lower quality), but essentially both can be used.

You can also hack the eid with the Asus .inf giving you Nvidia 3D surround using the sammy glasses.

the Nvidia 3D monitors won't work with AMD in 3D period.

Think ive decided on a samsung monitor, just torn between 24" and 27" :(

Just need to decide on a gfx card, was thinking 7950 (probably the MSi and o/c a bit).
