So are all phone prices gonna tumble now?

Not really that important especially when you have a chip like the S4 with stock android, however, it is nice to have in order to future proof the phone more.
Not sure what you mean by this or what you are replying to?:p

hehe :D Not at all! :p ¬_¬

Have actually been using the "nexus" name for years now in games, other forums etc. long before android even existed! :D :p
Lies! :D

Replying to your question about RAM and multi-tasking! :p

- Essentially stock android, therefore light weight/not bloated, apps don't use much memory thus multi-tasking is better compared to phones with custom skins and additional apps

- Even if an app were to close due to low memory, with the S4 (due to the sheer processing power of it, more so the performance per core as android doesn't fully utilise dual let alone quad when it comes to apps and how it all works together) apps will start up instantly, although it won't be a HUGE difference compared to the likes of the X, GS 3 etc.

:p

Surely not having LTE explains the pricing (cant think of many top end phones that arent coming out with some LTE compliance, but I havent really looked), though in reality its not a massive loss in the UK. Im tempted to pick one as a nice filler til LTE is featured on all the networks.

The Nexus 4 plus a cheap 12month SIMO plan would be flexible/cheap enough til that happens. Its piqued my interest...

The GS 3 (non LTE model), one X/X+, S amongst pretty much every other mid range/high end mobile that don't support LTE are still priced a lot higher than the N4.

Although not adding it certainly would have kept the costs down anyway.

But arent those already out? Not really what I was referring to, more top-end phones due to come out...

The one X+ only just came in stock here yesterday and is costing £495 sim free.

Whilst there will always be top end phones out like every 3 months or so, they aren't going to be hugely different/better than the N4 and you can be guaranteed that they will cost nearly twice as much, as someone has already said google will make the money from the play store etc. where as Samsung, HTC etc. have nothing to rely on, they have to charge a high price as the phone is all they have got essentially.

Until the likes of the GS 4, we aren't going to see anything beating this by a large amount if at all for a while especially for the price, maybe the HTC butterfly/DLX will destroy it but again it will cost £450+. There just isn't any phone that can compete with this for the price point, even if it was being sold at £400, it would still be the better option compared to the GS 3, X, S, RAZR HD and note II etc. Unless storage is an issue.....

Plus all of those phones apart from the X+ have been out for about 5+ months now, yet they are still dearer than a brand new device, which is better overall.

Are there any detailed reviews of this phone around? I couldn't get on GSM arena today.

Just look at the Optimus G reviews, for the camera make sure its the 8MP and not 13MP model. Remove that part where they review the crap LG skin with amazing stock google awesomeness. Apart from the software and some design changes its more or less the same phone, the software being the huge key for me as stock android > most other things at this point for me.

Just taking a look at the long list of best in class hardware, then the stupidly low price made this an instant buy for me.

Since getting a nice hardware accelerated JB rom on my S2, I just feel everything is near instant. Android has really come a long way from the days of sluggish phones. Even when comparing my S2 to my GFs iPad 3, the iPad 3 most of the time felt slow at opening and close things.

As said look at optimus G reviews although don't base too much on camera and battery performance from the optimus G reviews as software plays a very big part in these areas and going by benchmarks for performance etc. it appears that LG's software is poorly optimised so with stock android it should be better....

And besides, to get a more accurate picture of battery life, will need to wait for user opinions as the benchmarks for battery life isn't that great really.

I don't think it's surprising at all. Google is all about the cloud so why encourage people to store locally?

Err... Tunnels? Subways? Airplanes? Roaming? Capped plans? (Especially in America where I think there's just one network left offering unlimited plans!)

I agree that as bandwidth improves we'll stream more and more and store less and less, but we're hardly at that point yet! And Nexus phones hardly sell so much that they could singlehandedly change that, the way BB singlehandedly changed email access and Apple singlehandedly forced carriers to bundle data with their contracts. As long as every other phone on the market comes with more storage the Nexus 4 alone won't have the clout to change that.

Still, I'm on Giffgaff and there are no subways where I live, so for me (and I know I'm in the minority) the limited storage doesn't matter so much. Especially for the price they're offering it at! But I'll still wait to see if they pull a Nexus 7 on us and introduce a 32GB model.

I'd actually say you are in the majority. Most people don't need or want more than 8gb. This forum isn't really representative of the average smartphone user.

If I'm going on the tube (which I do regularly) then I have podcasts that I download automatically plus locally downloaded albums from Amazon Cloud. I don't suddenly think "Oh damn, I wish I had ***** album" on a 40 minute tube journey. ;)

I think the other reason Google don't release a 32gb phone is because they will likely alienate a lot of hw manufacturers. A 32gb phone/SD slot at this price point would literally canibalise sales of their main android partners, it would be far and away the best phone on the market. I think the compromise on storage is to appease their partners for massively undercutting them whilst also pushing cloud services.
