So,
the time has come and our 7 year old border Skye will be driven to the pet hospital tonight for her hip replacement tomorrow.

Gotta say, i'm really worried. She means the world to us, and i get paranoid that she may not wake up from the anaesthetic, even though she was given it at the same place when she had her x-ray and MRI scans.

Pick her up on saturday and she'll have to spend plenty of time in her cage to avoid her moving too much too soon.
Then a loooong 6 months recovery and rehab until she should be fully better.

The vet says that she will be having the smallest hip available before going down to a cat sized one, as she is dainty little 15kg.

We have two 9 week old kittens, just hope they don't tease her too much....(we know they will)

Lol, i worry more about the animals than our 3 teenage kids.

Arrrrr hope it all goes OK

Who's paying?

Thanks.
Luckily Sainsburys pet insurance covers the dog for up to £7k per complaint.
Hip op is £5k (i started a thread about this a while back).
They've already paid up £1500 for the scans, they'll pay the hospital direct for the remainder so we have no need to worry about that now.

Hope all goes well mate! :)

I really should stop looking at dog and cat pics on the internet. makes me want more myself! :p

Lol.....well we should have only had the one kitten, but when we got there i kind of said "why not have two?!". Eejit that i am.

Glad we did though, they're a right pair together. We also have an adult cat (Joey) who comes for a walk with us when i take Skye out. He's got celebrity status around the village for that, lol.

Haha. Does it have a lead?

Joey? Nah....he just pootles along with us. If he can't be bothered to walk to the woods, then he waits at a certain point, then on the way back as soon as we get within view of him, often up to 150yds away (he's usually under a car) he springs out, miaows and walks back home with us.
If he doesn't see us, i make a tutting noise with my lips and he comes running from wherever he was hiding. He's a right character.

One of our daily jaunts....

hope everything goes ok for her, whats caused her to need her hip doing quite young? i know its a common problem with collies as thats what i was worried about when getting ours but then again every dog has there assosiated problems.

According to the surgeon when he showed us the xray, (her hip looked like a smashed cabbage), he reckons some trauma when she was young caused it....and she has just lived with it ever since. Then some slip or bang or whatever back in June this year has damaged it enough to warrant treatment.
Weird thing is some of her vetebrae has lost their fluid and have started to grow inwards, but this isn't causing the surgeon any concern, he just thinks its the body's reaction to the hip trauma.
Quite weird looking at the xray.

Thanks mate :)

Good to see you were insured, so many go without which I see as unfair to the animals, unless of course you have a spare few K sitting in the bank in case anything happens.

Yeah, if we didn't have her insured, we'd find the cash somehow.....wouldn't let her carry on suffering.

all the best for your doggie mate. like members of the family arent they?

my old daxie (sausage dog.. dachshund) jumped out my dads arms many years ago and broke his leg and back. luckily pet hospital sorted him.

Well, we dropped her off tonight, and both me and the Mrs were emotional when we got in the car. We'd worry less if any of the kids were in hospital.
