Are we losing this country?

We are mainly a financial and service industry country now.

You can't compete with the "emerging markets" in manufacturing - if you want a million M5 bolts they will beat you on price every time - its just not possible to do it here for that price with our taxes, employment, h&s laws etc.

We can be pretty good at component manufacture as well though. For example : we don't make aircraft any more, but we do make parts - wing leading edges, flaps, nacelles, etc.

Where we can really compete is the knowledge, experience and skill in how and why to use those bolts in a solution for a customer and using all of that to deliver to the customer.

That isn't strictly true, I watched a program recently about a textile company, I think they made cushions. They were moving production back to the UK from China.

I say 10 years then the decline comes.

That's entirely possible. However, if we encourage more people to go into higher education in useful subjects (none of this [Something] Studies BS), and then keep them in the UK, we can be the leaders in certain fields.

I meet a lot of non British people, and they ask me if there are any real Londoner as they always seem to meet foreign people.
I want my country back, I want to walk down the road hearing people speaking English, i’m sick of bending over to please these visitors, that do not care about anything apart from taking.

I also meet a lot of non British people, and they often speak better English than the locals, are more interested in this country and are keen to work and make something for them. I'd suggest casting your net further afield.

Textiles? :p

I know a guy who has a degree in something to do with fabrics/textiles. He's the MD of an IT firm

How long do you think that will last?

Possibly forever.
This is not the first time. I read or was it a TV programming about the Industrial Age/cotton trade. The exact thing happened to the uk. Other countries caught up and we lost profitability in that area, so we moved to more advance stuff. As long as we maintain the advanced stuff we can do well.
Unfortunately America is much better at this. They are willing for companies to try and go bust and as such much easier to get funding. Where in the uk such industries find it hard.

As well as there spending on DARPA and NASA, which leads to high tech industry. Just look at Space X

If skylon was designed in america, NASA would have given it huge grants to test it.

+1

You always hear about the scummy immigrants, but you seldom hear about the ones who make this country successful and are just as British as those born here.

Urgh:mad: :p

The British need to get it into their head, they are no longer what they were once. We are no longer a Great nation, we are now a typical nation.

I actually agree with this.

There are just as many if not more British people destroying this country as there are foreigners IMO.

What's really destroying it though is the stupid system where soon we won't be able to fart without being taxed. Business leaves the country because it's too costly here.

Not really.

We are a developed nation, this alone makes us great. Look how freaking awesome this country is compared to newly industrialised countries like China. Then compare how fantastic we are compared to war and poverty stricken nations like many African countries.

Urgh:mad: :p

Because there are only a few, you always here about the scummy whites but really never hear about those that came from the gutters of this country to make something of themsleves.
What i'm talking about when do you close the doors? 100 million 200 million people living in the UK? because according to you closing the doors is racist.

Example 1966 we keep going on about it we never move on from our past glory.

We do, Alan Sugar won't stop rubbing it in our bloody faces :p

When have I ever said closing the doors is racist? Please stop putting words in my mouth.

And there aren't only a few. Go to medical institutions and they will be packed full of loads of people from other races, you just don't tend to notice :)

Wha?!

I believe one of the issues in this country is that people care TOO much. Patriotism is good until it's borderline xenophobic, which I think is what a lot of "patriots" in the UK are. They still have the country's best interests at heart though, they're just wrong most of the time.
