Motorola release first new phones since Google takeover

Q2?! You're having a laugh.

I will be stateside in a couple of weeks, so was thinking of picking it up then.

Moto have promised JB before year-end for the Droid RHD...

Indeed!

We have the nexus 4 now, am sure HTC will be releasing more phones........supposedly they'll have the 1080P screen butterfly over here but under the name DLX instead and Samsung as well as Sony will probably be bringing something out.

Not to mention that it will probably be stuck on 4.0.4....... and google could bring a new version of android out by then as well.....

Knew you would ask that! :D

Not sure about LG phones.......

Although I have never really seen people complain about it on previous phones.

If it is good, you going to get one?

I'm sure HTC will release half a dozen in that time frame

As for the LG - well I had to ask :D Never taken any notice of LG phones.

Will I get one? 100% NOOO :p Admire the price point but think 16gb is a bit mean. Having gone from the 4.7" One X and then down to the Razr i I'm much preferring the smaller screen/phone for day to day use. 4.3" is a good compromise. You might miss your One S if you get a Nexus 4, Nexus. Too many Nexus's on this thread :D Don't be in a hurry to sell it. Not in a right hurry for a bigger phone and that includes the Razr HD Maxx should it ever show it's face over here  Each to his or her own as they say

I'd not set too much store by a Motorola promise  That said I believe they'll roll Jellybean out soon enough. Surprised with Google running the show they haven't already. Promised for the Razr i though no word on when.

Razr HD Maxx will only be available on Verizon currently? Guess it can be unlocked but no doubt it will have been branded. Don't think it has anything other phones haven't got except a big battery? Still, I'd be interested to hear what you think if you get one.

hehe, it is the best name! :D

Yeah, I won't be doing anything for a few weeks as I am waiting for the gsmarena and anandtech review (mainly for the camera, audio and battery areas) as well as user opinions, especially given all the issues of the nexus 7 tablet, besides I wouldn't order from the google due to their poor service unless all the other etailers try their luck by selling it for more

The main reasons for me is purely bigger screen, nexus device for the updates (very big factor for me as every company is still awful for bringing updates/support for their non nexus devices and I love new software/updates :p But I don't want to go down the road of rooting and flashing custom ROMs again)

Stock android looks to have improved vastly for the camera and gallery apps (main things, which I love about sense V4), better than the sense camera overall though....probably not.

Jellybean and the X+ battery in the S could stop me from moving to the N4 though.......

Yeah Verizon-exclusive till next year I think... it comes unlocked to all non-US GSM carriers from what I've read, but yeah branded and pre-loaded with bloatware.

It is pretty crazy to even consider the RHD / RHDM with the GN4 on the scene, but I sort of <3 Moto :(

Wonder why there is such a delay? You'd think they'd be keen to sell phones rather than ***s off prospective customers? Is the none maxx Razr HD going to be released sooner in the UK Matt?

yeah I believe so, I should have my hands on one soon.

I doubt very much its Motorolas choice to not have multiple phones out at multiple pricepoints, it's the retailers not buying it and I expect thats because there's a cost difference between the HD and MAXX with very little customer knowledge of what that difference gets you so might as well go with the HD.

In fact, you could argue the i is the one with the most selling points with the relatively small footprint with a big screen and an intel processor regardless of how meh that is.

The Verizon exclusive will only be US, all mfrs (well, most) do regional or colour exclusives of some kind and Motorola are basically Verizons bitch in the states but an exclusive on the MAXX over there wouldn't stop them selling it here if they had a buyer.

Either way, I know Motorola basically have to beg to get phones listed so I wouldn't be surprised if you barely saw the HD/MAXX over here, you'll probably find it on buymobilephones.net or similar, there's unfortunately too much noise from the apples and samsungs for someone like carphone to bother getting behind it.

I'll admit I know nothing about phone retailing and would think what you say above to probably the case. Either way I can see the Razr HD and more so the Maxx struggling to sell against the phones you mention in any worthwhile numbers? When I was in the Three shop signing up and getting an HTC One S some time back there were 4 other customers in shop. All 4 signed up for iPhone 4s which kind of said something to me.

I'll quite happily stick with my Razr i and although it may be a bit 'meh' :D it gets the job done.

well I meant the intel thing was a bit meh as a USP, the only selling point is that joe public recognises the brand over TI OMAP 4 blah blah even though they might be being sold something which at best is on par, at worst slightly incompatible and lacklustre.

The handset is cool though.

And yeah, i know a fair bit about this sort of thing as I'm in the industry but I have a friend who knows an awful lot more, I'm 100% correct trust me!

I get what you mean. Intel chip is OK but only that. I would have preferred an S4 chip in it (Razr M) but battery life seems better according to reports with the Intel chip.

Trust you? I hardly know you :D:D

I've never owned a Motorola and that doesn't appear to be changing in the near future as the Nexus 4 just stole my sale.

ha ha, yeah fair point! Mark my words and all that :)

I was reading some stuff about Motorola losing some court case in Germany and pulling most of their phones out of that market. Further reading enlightened me as to the fact that they are not all that popular with retailers and as you say not many are prepared to stock them. We may not see the Razr HD Maxx in the UK and possibly not many Razr HD either? Only reason I like Moto's is the hardware seems a little more robust than average and generally have good mobile network radios. That said my old HTC Desire used to be good in that department so why neither the One S or X couldn't be I dunno

Try finding a case or car mount or anything like that for the Razr i? Nothing! Even the Razr M which is basically the same as the Razr i, has a car mount but according to Moto is not compatible with the Razr i  Of course it fits but will not activate car mode I'm led to believe?

Yeah, they seem to have zero presence in Europe which is weird! I guess, with a finite marketing budget, we just aren't a priority?

Again, hoping the Google takeover will change this over the next couple of years...

I'm now swinging back to the idea of the HD Maxx... hmm

I was going to get a DRHD MAXX when I was in the US last month, but foolishly chickened out at the last minute in the Verizon store :(

No idea why they aren't out in the UK yet!!

Clearly shows how concerned Motorola are about the UK :p

The RAZR devices have got JB including the M, yet afaik, no JB for the I yet....

More great devices ruined by poor support again, google seriously need to start knocking some sense into these companies!

im properly disappointed i have to say. its nigh on impossible to get one here it seems, no other phone fits my reqs anywhere near as well
