Red/Purple dots AMD beta drivers

Hi again all,

I recently RMA'd a card due to me getting lots and lots of dots appearing on the screen. I've just installed the new beta drivers everyone's been talking about and now I'm seeing them again JUST when booting up around the Windows 7 boot logo.

Anyone else seen anything like this? card is on stock and hasn't been overclocked at all. Though weirdly I was considering doing it, but now it's put me off.

Let's see a picture then. The fact its happened with two cards suggests its likely something else. Have you got another monitor and cable you can test with?

With the back-light on the monitor it's hard to see, but the dots are changing position constantly, around the logo when it glows. Really hard to see on a picture though. It's the TwinFrozr 3 MSI 7850 2GB edition. I'm also tempted to believe it's the monitor now, I tried a different monitor (my 3DTV) and the dots disappeared. Could it be the cable? I've plugged it back in and now the dots are gone.

I've swapped to my DVI cable, hopefully this will resolve the problem. I really hope it does. Also yes Tonester, it's a HDMI cable.

Hi,

After running the system since the issue occurred, I've yet to see the issue happen again. I'll re-post again tomorrow once I've ran the card to the end of the world and back. Running via DVI rather than HDMI seems a whole lot better as it happens, I occasionally (with HDMI) have to alter the settings as I get a lot of overscan.

As I said above, I'll update you again tomorrow, hopefully I'll not see the problem again.

DisplayPort is horridly sensitive to cable quality and length :( ruins what could otherwise be a good standard. HDMI is just rubbish and DVI depreciated :S
