Orbis Sonys New[PS4] Come PC!

Hmmm so still not all that powerful then if its using the built in gfx even if they are pretty nippy.

Just means porting between pc/720/ps4 should be easier, but we'll still get shafted as always

It has an APU? As in a CPU + GPU in one? I don't see how that can benefit PC, the Xbox was an AMD GPchip and an AMD CPU yet we still got penisy ports. The fact the console games are now gonna be even higher quality just means ports will take 50x as much as they do now to work on PC.

Good game PC. Gee gee.

Orbis[PS4]AMD A10 APU used as basis for thier new Console? or is it a PC? Could this benefit PC gaming in the long run. What do you guys think?

Orbis Spec - AMD A10 APU, 8>16GB Ram, HDD or SSD - 256GB

News link - http://www.guru3d.com/news_story/ps4_new_kits_shipping_nowamd_a10_apu_used_as_basis.html

It's an early devkit, based off of a computer with similar spec to that of their intended first batch SKU.

It's how it's always worked, it's not a PC and will have no impact on PC gaming, or at least, no different to the sort of impact consoles have on the gaming industry as a whole at the moment (this is not flame bait, do not let this turn into a console vs PC debate).

4GB tops I'll say. 8GB is normal for developers' machines as they have 2x RAM for debugging.

Good assumption, 4gig will be a nice jump from the 512mb the PS3 currently has (this figure still shocks me given what we've seen from the console over the past 5 years).

It boggles my mind as to how avalanche managed to fit the whole Just Cause 2 with such little amount of ram.

Especially if you consider that it's actually a 256mb split between graphics and system memory. How it managed to render Uncharted 2 with just 256mb of ram to fall back on must have involved some form of voodoo magic.

Or just extremely low resolution textures with a low native resolution, no anti aliasing, horribly compressed shadows and about 10 polygons per character. :p

Still, it looks amazing none the less and that's by PC standards, now imagine if games like Uncharted, God of War, Gears of War etc. were made for PC and beefed down for consoles, they'd look even better on both!

Issue comes down to the fact that two of those games you've listed are developed by a console producing company and the other was heavily funded by one. Until companies that develop gaming hardware/operating systems start helping the funding/research of PC titles you'll very rarely get the funding and manpower put behind a PC/Mac game as you will your average 'blockbuster' console game. Look at games like Killzone 2, Guerrilla Games is a comparatively small development studio, however when the game was in production Sony threw money at them and got other studios that they own to forward any coding efficiency research etc at them to make sure it looked as pretty as possible. Sadly this is not exactly a common occurrence with PC development.

Microsoft used to, hence excellent games such as the original trilogy of Age of Empires and others. Unfortunately they stopped investing in the PC gaming market anywhere near as much as of late.

how long before the console wars start again then? those fanBoys are pretty funny!

I'd wager next Christmas will potentially see the release of the PS5/Xbox whatevernumberschemetheywillchoosenext

Whilst this is the first time i've seen actual confirmation of devkits rolling out, rumors have been going on for a while and the codename was going around 6 months ago. This could hopefully mean that games will be ready for release at Christmas 2013.

I'm a huge fan of the PS3 and feel mine has given me a huge amount of value for money considering how often i've used it over the past 4 years. But i do feel it's time to move on, they've all reached their potential.

Xbox has an IBM powerpc based CPU, which might explain the penisy ports :p

Basically it's going to have an AMD APU which can't run **** at 1080p, no matter in 3D and at 60fps, and will cost about £400 while offering the power of an average laptop.

Gratz.
