I think you're forgetting how incredibly cheap these are in the US. And I think the figures given are the ones for the manual mustang. The simple fact that it's not that far off an M3 on the track is an absolutely immense achievement if we're thinking bang for buck.

Which company did you hire the Mustang? I'm off to Vegas on Thursday and have been weighing up whether to hire a car or not. Normally insurance has to be done separate which puts me off. Plus I've never drove abroad on the opp. side of the road & car. Any tips?

A 13 second 1/4 mile and 0-60 in 4.8 seconds seems pretty damn quick to me.
Yeah it was through hertz, the only tip I would suggest is pay the extra for a sat nav if you dont have one, the strip can be big and confusing it sometimes has 6 or 7 lanes per side and you can easily be in a lane which goes left turn only. If you are staying on the strip then you pick up the car, make 3 right turns and you are on the strip which makes it easy.
Just remember you can turn right on a red light unless specifically told not to. However be careful as pedestrian crossings can be on green at the same time so you need to give way.
For those questioning its speed, this is a very similar car

What sites are you guys booking with these days? I need to rent something next week. I will probably end up with a Mustang Convertible again, but want to see if there are any deals going on the Camaro SS/Corvettes.
@NickXX; I rented a Corvette through Hertz, plenty of choice (at LAX, anyway).
Well worth the extra over the (totally and utterly crap) Mustang V6's which i had rented a few years on the trot. Not as spacious, but there was only the two of us.

Indeed, odd opinion is odd.
a Boxster S wouldnt be far behind it, but a new 2013 Boxter S in the states costs around $80k+
in mustang terms that nearly buys you a pair of Boss 302 mustangs or a Shelby GT500 and $30k change for fuel and tyres
my father lives in houston TX and has a boxter S gen one 987 as his weekender
i pointed out that there was little merit in owning a european sports car in his location, but he has always wanted one and doesnt fancy the 'red neck' image that is associated with muscle car ownership in texas.
i personally wouldnt care as his boxter was genuinely boring to drive over there. for what he paid for the porsche, he could have bought a brand new laguna seca 302. which would arguably be the better car for the environment it is being driven in
To the guy who said on paper they don't seem quick. Mustangs are poor of the Mark, no fancy launch control, limited traction etc.
A Boxster S on a 60-130mph run would be vastly slower, 0-60 is a poor measure of a cars performance especially against cars like Porsches which have tonnes of mechanical grip.
