Reading this made me half-rage half-laugh before my morning coffee. It seems they're pandering to the lowest common denominator, maybe the problem isn't with the menu but the person reading it. Most people around the world cope with English words entering their language I don't see why a few Italian ones should be a problem for a person of average intelligence.

That or it's a clever marketing attention grab :)

If they are going literal the I could have some fun when ordering food.

Think of the names for things such as:

Yorkshire pudding
Toad in the hole
Shepard's pie
Croissant
Muffin

Etc.

To be honest it's the staff at some of these coffee shops that need to learn the ******* difference! Sick to death of ordering a Latte and getting a Cappuccino!!! /rantover

(ok not sick to death but you get the point! :p )

Go order a wet cappuccino, that'll confuse them :p

If the peasants don't understand the words, they shouldn't be drinking proper coffee! Send them back to Nescafe!! :p

/coffee elitist

I hate it when I'm forced to ask for an "americano" because the barista feigns ignorance at my request for a standard coffee.

"Just a coffee please"

"latte? cappuccino? americano?"

*sigh*.. "Americano.. Large"

"grande?"

":("

Edit: though some of these name changes are just descriptions of the drink. Why not put the description under the name, if people are having trouble?

Would be less patronizing, and I think debenhams are underestimating the intelligence of their customers.

Most people I see in debenhams cafe's are families, not lorry drivers!

I'd understand if it was done in supermarkets.

Are there really people who misunderstand the difference between Latte and cappuccino. Most of the menu boards have a description underneath anyway, don't they?

I like it but it will have the coffee snobs choking on their cup of really, really milky frothy coffee.

Can I get some really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really milky coffee.

Baked Batter
Baked Batter with a Sausage in it.
Meat and vegetable pie with potato on it.
Crescent shaped, yeast lightened, puff pastry roll.
Cup cake sized, bread-like thing.

I'd love it if you asked for a Cappucino and they just looked at you like you were some sort of creature of the deep, like the cretins in other coffee shops do when you ask for something that isn't wrote on their board.

You’re getting the hang of it now. Just make sure that they hear the word coffee.
