I want to raise my TV on my av stand by 20cm so my center speakercan sit on top of the unit . (the centre speaker is about 20cm high)

The pedestal things you can get are stupidly expensive and I'm doubtful if they will even give the clearance.

What I was wanting really is a black cube of wood that isn't too heavy but strong enough to support my 46in plasma.

I haven't a clue of where to go to get this, or if there is a better idea!

I had a similar problem when I wanted to place my amp on the bench / table top. I made a steel frame which I was able to attach to the back of the bench and then fix the TV by the Vesa mounting points (the 4 silver bars in pic below).

Sorry, I did have more pics ... but the only one I can find now is this

...it shows the two brackets attached to the centre frame which in turn was fixed to the back of the bench / table.

Subscribed. I've been wanting to do something very similar to accommodate my centre speaker but in an oak finish to support a 42" Panasonic TV.

That was my thread before about what to do,

I decided against wall mounting as the tv would look too small.
I didn't want to get a new stand, i wouldn't be able to sell the one I have, besides I love that stand.
I can't move the shelves as the middle one can't drop lower due to the amp and Htpc

Only solution is to raise the tv

I don't think I would trust anything I built to support the tv, also my shelves are glass so can'tssupport any forces pulling them at wrong angles.. Good job tho!

No need to have a solid block of wood. Build a simple 5-sided box and spray it. Put some foam pads on the bottom to help with leveling and prevent scratching. Cut out the front to leave room for your centre channel speaker and notch the back to make way for the cables.

How about one of those 'aerobic step boxes' commonly used within aerobic classes?

It would probably work, but I really want it to look decent, as in wooden. I saw something on Google images but it's a USA company

I was thinking along those lines, I'm just not sure if I have the ability to make it look decent. But might be the only option

why dont you just buy a peice of wood cut to measure like most normal people would rather than looking for some designed for purpose cut peice of wood thats exactly the same?

I've sources some decent oak planks that I can make either

A hollow cube for the tv to sit on with the speaker in front
A housing for the actual speaker so the tv sits directly above the speaker.

I'm trying to decide what would work better!
