Windows 8 The Verdicts ?

They seem to have given my windows key a new lease of life, love the new search functions but just wish that mail app was a little better, it's still a tad clunky to move items around etc.

Loving it so far and I wasn't happy with the new UI when I first tried it but switching between that and the old fashioned desktop isn't something I really notice now, it's just "how it's done" and I'm happy working in either.

Few things I'd change but more are minor things such as mouse wheel not scrolling until you click first sometimes etc.

Yeah you are right about the Windows key, scooting all round with that myself.

Mail is a real disappointment, is there any way to get rid of the 3 column view or at least make it top and bottom like in Outlook?

I've added the Shut down and Reboot to both Metro tiles and Win+X,this is how too, don't really need a Start button once you have these installed .

http://www.howtogeek.com/77061/how-to-add-shutdown-restart-sleep-to-the-windows-8-metro-start-screen/ ,and http://www.howtogeek.com/113775/add-shutdown-and-reboot-to-the-windows-8-winx-menu/ .

Yes, thanks for this. It is not necessary but since I use the 'Metro' interface as a start menu then this is the obvious place to go to close the machine.

Has anyone had an issue with the corners not working? It's randomly happening where if I go to a corner just nothing comes up? No preview is displayed but if I click as if it was there it launches! The right side settings vanish also, forced to use win+c. :\

I'm on it. But using Start8.

Boots straight to desktop. Has a start menu and I've turned the hotspots off. I feel like a Luddite but what the hell. ;)

You might as well get used to Windows 8, inogen, its how Windows is going to look in the future though I hope the apps and the 'Metro' desktop will look better in later versions.

without starting another windows 8 thread, can anyone tell me if you can have 2 pc's running win 8 whilst being logged into the same live id?

i have win 8 running on my desktop and am just about to upgrade my MCPC and would rather not run it as a local account or set up a new live id.

thanks

I just can't be bothered with it. :D

I'm pretty sure in future versions that the metro thing will work, but with dual screens it's pretty abysmal for actually getting stuff done.

As it is, if I want to use the metro I do win+c and start - and do it on my right hand screen, leaving the left as a normal desktop. It's not really bringing much to the party though for me, except the weather and a news app I don't like...

Actually I've just realised, without the hotpots turned on, I can't get metro onto my right hand screen any more. Oh well!

I've had my Win8 desktop and Win8 laptop both logged in ,both use same ID for email etc..only PC names is different.

Just started using this, absolutely clueless, took ages to find the control panel :p

Any decent guides I should cast my eye on?

It's like I'm using two machines, it's confusing at the moment. There's nothing I'm benefiting from with the new interface.

Jury still out but will give it more.

If they put in a decent explorer type app into the new UI I'd have no need for a desktop from what I can see. Rarely on it now unless it's to go to the damn control panel which switches me to it.
