What's the general protocol with these? Let me describe the situation.

- I own the top floor of a maisonette.
- I'm about to let the property because i'm going traveling
- I have been in touch with a couple of estate agents whom have taken photographs, published them, etc
- I have gone round to the property this evening to find that one of them has bolted a 'TO LET' sign to the wood frame that is outside the porch of the house

This porch is jointly owned by both flats, so I can't say it's all mine and the bolts will leave holes that obviously wont be repaired.

The estate agent did not contact me to say they were putting up such signs.

opinions?

heh, usually letting agents charge 25 or 30 quid for a board here, so everyone just sticks them online instead with the agent, odd they didn't mention this to you.

We're moving out of a property, and the agents have cable-tied the sign to the gate post to avoid this problem.

Photograph the damage and contact their head office. They should not have put a board up without permission and to cause damage is obviously out of order.

I have a friend who lives in a maisonette on the ground floor of a 3 floor block.

One of the maisonettes on the above floors is for sale and the estate agent has attached a for sale sign on the garden fence of the downstairs maisonette.

They did not ask the person who lives there for permission nor the housing association who own almost every property here.

Estate agents are *****

I live in a block of 20 flats and every now and then an estate agent will turn up and bolt a board to the fence, even when there are no flats for sale/rent (and haven't been for months).

It winds me up because it damages the fence and makes the place look cheap.

Estate agents will put up signs outside blocks because they know no-one living there will know whether a flat is for sale or not. In my previous freehold block it was banned and any signs placed were ripped out and destroyed.

Estate agents are scum and should be treated as such.

Provide evidence of the damage (e.g. photos) and demand it be repaired ASAP.

Also, don't forgot, estate agents are scum and should be treated as such.

I'd also be inclined to tell them where to go regarding the property as they don't sound like an agency you particularly want to be dealing with.

Above all, remember, estate agents are scum and should be treated as such.

Hope you get it sorted!
