Free Battlefield 1942 on Origin!!

Just had an hour's blast to see how the rose-tinted glasses are holding up.

Graphically, well, it's 10 years old but that kinda adds to the charm. It's certainly not too bad though.

Gameplaywise, it's still up there with the greats. No stupid awards, if you get hurt you need to find a medic/medic station (no magical healing), friendly fire (so you have to actually check who you're shooting at not spray and pray), battleships and aircraft carriers that move.

All-in-all, still marvellous after all these years :)

Now....where's that DC link?

Doesn't work for me. :( Game is pretty fun.

Trying changing the files under your profile name. Be sure to mark them as read-only after you've made the changes though otherwise the game will put them back. The movies etc will still be in low rez but the actual game will switch to your chosen rez.

First Battlefield i ever played, i remember watching my mate play it with the Star Wars mod, looked amazing.

I spent many hours when I was younger on BF1942 and the DC mod - this is what Battlefield should have stayed as - no perks, no unlocks, no regenerating health, just pure, simple, 64-player fun.

I played this last night after downloading the game, I was suprised to see a ton of servers and most of them full with 64 players.
I didn't even mind the poor graphics by todays comparison, the game play was awesome!
Highly recommend at least trying this out folks, was great for nostalgia value and playing El Alamein was tons of fun!

Ah the good old days of capture the flag.

I used to love flying the Stuka, my passenger bails out, grabs the flag after parachuting whilst i turn around and swoop down and pick him up again while he holds enter.

I got it down to a fine art, as soon as he grabbed the flag he was back in the passenger seat of the Stuka :)

That was when i was 31...where has ten years gone?

IIRC i had a radeon 9000 AGP card back then.

Had a lot of fun on this last night and the graphics don't bother me at all - brought back so many fond memories; remember playing it on my old GeForce MX 440!
