Am I mad for considering this?

Pads on everything apart from the core which gets treated to some mx-4 :)

Cash vacuum = child :p

Already dipping into my case fund for this card.

I'll see if I can sell a kidney or something tomorrow and see what my finances look like before I decide on which card.

LOL

Hybrid cfx isn't an option either, don't want to do the lightning the ultimate injustice by pairing it with a lower spec card :p

I think I'm going to do it, just need to figure out my finances when I get to work :D

I suppose deep down a part of me wants to play with the asus test bios too...

Hmm decisions, I can realistically afford a £300 card and a block for it, I can't realistically afford a £380 card and another block which is why this is becoming an option.

I do have a lightning block, but as I said earlier, its reserved for my replacement Lightning.

Is that on air matt? what volts?

That's on air, i can do those at around 1.225. @1250 core. 1225 core @1.2 1200 core at 1.175. Stock volts 1.112.

You'll still play the silicone lottery, however putting a water block on will really help. My card is held back by the reference cooler, if performance was an issue id push it harder but frankly even stock is too fast. ;)

If I followed my heart on every thing I wanted I'd be broke :p

That's pretty good clocks Matt, in fact that averages out better then the lightning!!

Think I'll do it, especially as I'll make £30 back off the game codes.

Lets hope you get lucky, mine appears to be above average but not quite golden. :p

Can i have first dibs on your far cry 3 code?

I'll be selling as a job lot on the mm, so feel free to buy then split :)

Provided its not as bad as my last reference (wouldn't do 1ghz on stock volts!!) I'll be happy.

At least you know this won't be voltage locked. :p

Get a HD7970
Sell the Lightning
Get another HD 7970
Put W/blocks on them
Clock the nuts off them
Do some benching

And if you can put them in a R4E to solve your other problem.

Sorry to hear about you rig, hope your up and running soon.

To be honest - I got a Lightning last week and although the patching it not really ideal - let's face it it does only take like 2minutes to do.

I'd easily get another Lightning if I was in your shoes, wouldn't touch a stock cooler with a barge pole.

What cooler is fitted isn't an issue for me at all though.

That's an option either way kaap, though I'll probably sell the lowest clocker and replace with a matching card.

Just putting an order in now, will order a waterblock next week (unless something dirt cheap shows up on the mm).

What's the stock volt limit ltmatt? 1.3v?

Yeah 1.3 is the limit, unless you have a lower asic card in which case you can add a maximum of 0.125mv.

That's fine, average clocker should manage in the range of 1250-1325 with 1.3v and water.

Actually quite excited to get this card now. The card have all the vrms in place or is it like the stock refs with one vrm bank missing?

Edit: ordered!!

No idea mate, all i know is this...

That's a reference, but slightly revised. There's actually a 2nd reference pcb that AIB's can use and that one is typically used with different caps. That MSI pictured is the same as the Powercolor. The problem with this pcb is that there is a capacitor that sits higher than the true reference pcb, so it caused clearance issues with early EK waterblocks. EK has since adjusted their blocks to compensate for the issue so it's moot now. Other than that, they're basically the same as there's no real discernible difference performance wise.

Cool, I just remember some oc editions had an extra vrm that was intentionally missing from reference cards. The extra vrm doesn't make any odds for waterblocks. I'll find a pic tonight to show what I mean :D

I think he higher caps was down to xfx...

Our card has military grade caps. :D

Yep though that's probably just marketing :p

Update on motherboard, saying it was tested before sending and that it sounds like a short?? Would have thought a short would just stop the system from showing any life signs.
