Gain much bhp with the map and cams?

Went from 176bhp 145lbft to 190bhp and 162lbft.. not much of a gain looking at numbers, but the difference in the way the car drives is huge. I could go back and have it remapped to retard the timing even more which should see around 195bhp but it would effect the idle and slow driving of the car.

Love this btw

Can't you have that ridiculous backfiring mapped out? I couldn't watch more than 1 minute of that video it was so annoying.

Don't listen to him, flames are cool! :p

Some awesome cars in an awesome thread, I wish I had the time, money, skill, space and drive to get something like this done. Alas.

Any idea how much weight you stripped out before adding the roll cage?

Sorry I can't remember but the car has a minimum weight that includes the driver and my car and me need to find another 27 kilos out of it to be on the weight limit. 10 of that can come off me fairly quickly but there is another 20kgs in the car we can find. Bumper inserts, boot and bonnet bracing and a few bits here and there. The best cars are circa 145bhp and have to carry weights to be legal and mine is someway off on both as it stands.

I don't have a dedicated track car, but I have taken my Legnum VR-4 on track a couple of times, and would like to do so some more.

It's basically standard, only mods are a boost controller for a bit more get-up-and-go, Goodridge braided brake hoses, and a set of Carbotech XP-8 pads - which are absolutely fantastic and provide zero brake fade, even after 20 minutes on track at Castle Combe.

This is when I bedded them in...

And one of my jaunts around Castle Combe with work this year, chasing the MD in his 510bhp Jaguar XKR

I could probably do with some suspension mods, the body roll is a bit on the comical side at times...

But, at the end of the day, it is my daily driver and I don't want to ruin it's comfort!

Here's mine.

Wow, nice Mr. House! After getting bored I spent last night reading mx5nutz forum and decided I need one of these!... plus a garage... and a house attached to it. Dunno how silly I would be to have that living in my assigned car park space at the flat!

I love alexisonfires Clio :)

I have no skill, no money, no garage and no drive :). Everything people do to a car to track it is optional. There's nothing to stop you just buying any old banger and throwing it around a race track.

If not just pop along to a track day with a mate and blag passenger rides.

Good words! And we do have a visitor space! The popping along to a track day to watch/blag is a great idea, I shall internet this.

Just noticed it was in your sig already :p Not a massive increase, but you'll get the most out of it, with the car being light I guess.

I think Skeeter needs to strip his... just waiting for the call to bring over the hacksaw

Hmm... now you mention it a hacksaw would solve the rounded bolt problem preventing me from removing the rear seats... :D

I won't regurgitate the whole story as our car has been pretty well documented on here, these three threads cover most of it for those who haven't seen it before:

In summary for those who can't be bothered reading it all:

We got a scruffy, MOT failure mk1 MR2 for nothing:

We MOT'd and stripped it:

Then sprinted it:

Then pulled the engine out and put a supercharged one in:

Then sprinted some more:

And lightened it some more:

And, err, got married in it:

Finally did something about the way it looks:

We've completed 5 seasons of sprinting in total now, with a fair bit of success. Out of 5 seasons I've won my class twice and been runner up the other 3 years and I take pride in harassing the quicker cars.

Development pretty much stopped over the last couple of years as I was sorting some engine issues but after a largely uneventful season it's time to press on again.

Last year we picked up a second car, this one has had serious money spent on it in the past but it looking rather sorry for itself now. It's been caged, every bolt on panel has been replaced with fibreglass (the doors are comical), it's got a mostly complete turbo conversion, stack dash, nice coilovers and a few other odds and ends. Plan at the moment is to get it running nicely then steal the cage, panels and engine and probably the suspension for the orange car. If all goes to plan we're going to be a fair bit quicker next season.

I see it had faded paint. Good to see that isn`t the case now. oh, hang on ...:D

Seriously, great car, scanned the threads, will read more detail later. ;)

Ha :) well it did look nice just after it was done. Plan was to garage it off season but something took up the garage space, people do keep offering us MR2s! As the 'new' car is a completely different colour and some of the body panels are going on this one, a new 'paint scheme' will also happen. I say paint scheme loosely as it will probably be vinyl. It will still be lairy though.

Personally I've loved the last few years sprinting and autotesting, it's really helped my general road skills. I need to see what the doctors say about my manky joints in a few weeks but hopefully will still be driving next year. When you're in pain, it takes your concentration off a bit.

A question for those of you with track cars, would you be interested in competing in them? Racing is pricey and risky but fun if you can do it, and there are a few series now (MSV Trackday Trohpy) aimed at Trackday drivers. If you read our threads, you will know we enter sprints, which are cheaper and the risk is only on the driver, would be excellent to get some OCUK people at a sprint to compare some times!!

Vix/Kaiowas, what is the output of the supercharged engine? Is it based on an NA 2.0 mr2 engine or something else?

I like the orange, stands out a bit now!

I would love to race or sprint mine, but the finances required have stopped me so far. We shall see what the future holds though.

Sprinting is relatively cheap, at £100 per round it competes with a track day, plus you would use less fuel and be easier on the tyres and brakes. Racing is a different story, entry fees vary from £500 upwards, plus there's the extra mods to the car, and your ARDS licence to factor. And the risk that someone could crack into you off the start line and all is lost.

The supercharged engine is based on the 1.6 n/a standarad mr2 engine, and is a production model.I believe we are at about 160 brake at the mo although there are options to put on bigger pulleys for higher output. Fom memory a standard n/a is 120 but Phil might come along and say I'm totally wrong ;)
