mileage vs price on used cars

Hi guys,

This is for buying a used car. How would you price the mileage on a used car?

Say I'm looking at 2 cars (say 2010 Mazda MX-5), both of same year. 17k miles vs 7kmiles. Else being almost identical.

How would you price the difference?

How much are is the value one of them?
Of they were say 10k i would expect the difference between them to be between 400-700

Obviously this scales with overall cost so we would need to know ages etc

shouldn't be much in it to be honest, with the 7k the first service is still due (at 12500 - its only a couple of hundred but would cut the price difference) but nether should be overly worn or anything - check the tyres on the 17k though.... actually check the tyres on both tbh..

Buy on condition and spec rather than the mileage at that sort of level.

^ this. Condition is the only thing that matters, mileage is not an accurate measure of this at all so is not really all that important.

Also factor in the type of use its had.

17,000 motorway miles would be far better than 7,000 city/town miles.

Do people really see it that way?? If the car had 2k miles but fire damaged, would it still be worth more to you?

Well I think all else being the same.

I think it's just for me to understand how the price depreciation works.
