It's that time of year again so here I am searching for quotes but I have a couple of questions:

Does anyone get the legal assistance added and is it worth it?

Is windscreen cover still included with fully comp or is it now an added extra?

Does anyone bother with protected NCB?

Reason I ask about the windscreen cover as I've just done some quotes and I had to add windscreen cover. I'm sure I used to get it free before with fully comp or is it from years ago and I'm showing my age?

I'm currently with Aviva and they quoted me £308 for my 1.8 petrol Honda Civic with 5 yrs NCB, however all my new quotes are coming in around the £200 mark (even one from Aviva!). I always shop around though but just interested about the legal stuff etc.

Legal cover is pretty important if you ask me, its one of those things you don't think you need until you actually need it (like breakdown cover).

Some come with windscreen cover with small excess, some have no access and some you have yo add at extra cost.

As for protected no claims, I personally pay for it but wonder if it is worth the increased costs, when you renew with another insurer they always ask if you have had any accidents either your fault or not and I am convinced it raises your premium wether you had protected no claims or not.

I haven't protected mine, 6 years. *touch wood*

You can work out if it's worth it or not by adding a fault claim and adjusting your NCB to your quote and seeing how it affects your premium. I probably will protect next year but we'll see.

Just be careful if you do this with Admiral Group, because if they find data that links the quote to you, they'll assume you're lying to them, that you've concealed an accident from them and take money from your card/account to cover the premium they feel they are owed :p

I always, using the term loosly, 'fiddle' with my quotes to see how different named drivers, NCB, mods, mileage etc affect them, I'm with the admiral group too.

Surely they can only take funds if an accident is proven? I haven't had any *touch wood* nor will I.

There are a few threads on here now from people who have just had a few hundred quid vanish to Admiral and some have had to go as far as conference calls with the DVLA to prove they don't have points etc. to get the money back. 'You did a quote with an aftermarket exhaust/suspension/wheels/etc so you obviously have them' is another you have to watch

Be wary :p

Blimey, I'll be careful in future! I'm sure it's reclaimable but would be a lot of effort!

Surely that can't be legal?!

Admiral actually did this to me, however it was me in the wrong. When searching for insurance on comparison websites I went ahead and purchased insurance online and forgot to add a non fault claim in 2008 when some guy bumped into the back of me.

Admiral contacted me by email and said they would be taking the sum of £10.00 but wouldn't tell me why in the email.

When I contacted them by phone, they explained that on other comparison websites, I had put a non fault accident in the forms but not in Compare the market.com

They weren't arsey about it and understood it was an error and everyone was human.
