There are quite a few virtual operators using EE network, biggest being Virgin Mobile:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_mobile_network_operators_of_Europe#United_Kingdom

So there may be better deals around. I'm always getting letters with deals from Virgin and they're starting to get more competitive.

An example from Virgin:

Mobile SIM Only £12
SIM card cost FREE
Your tariff gives you:

150 minutes
Unlimited texts
Unlimited Mobile Web

12x12 + 459 = £603.

That would bring the TCO over 12 months to £594.

We just got back. Stupidly they didn't even take payment details neither cash nor card after telling us we would have to buy them first and would accept a refund if it did not work.

We got there and tested them without any payment (THEY could have DONE THAT THEMSELVES) they even insisted we tested both white and black with the different sims. (Three and Vodafone).

Neither of our sims worked. The phones are 100% locked despite what their systems say (the packaging clearly has Phones 4U as the brand, which according to the store is usually printed on sim free stock, as sim locked phones are branded with the network they are locked too).

The manager stated "awww thats a shame", shame they dont have a clue ... :(

So they wasted our time. I wasn't holding out that it would work, but it didn't still disappointing no matter how we were looking at it.

On the plus side my boss now wants white phone and the glossy look is much better than I could have imagined. It doesn't attract finger prints and looks a lot better than the matt black.

Apart from being disappointed the phone has a really good feel (similar to that of my iPhone 4 + case) but it felt a lot nicer in hand than the S3 and felt like it was made of quality material. It felt 100% solid, I didn't feel the S3 was anywhere near as good.

It's unfortunate that these phones are locked. I asked the store if they could unlock it and they said they wouldn't know how or who to phone. The only option now is to import a SIM free version from abroad.

:( :( :(

Is the phone 450 or 459? I thought it was 459, hence £603. Still the best price I've found, £60 better than my EE deal. Obviously 3G only.

Yeah, you are right.

3g only - not too bothered. The 4G data limitations means the 4G is pretty much useless :)

Plus, I am getting 15mb/sec on T-mob 3G. Same as some 4g speeds in the south.

This is beyond stupid from Nokia, this thread alone and how many stright up purchases are they losing out on?

Maybe we should add a one question poll?..curiosity, how many here would have been able to buy the phone outright sim free.

Had a phone call from my local P4U saying they had 2 in stock, 1 white 1 black. I didn't bother ringing back as I have no free time today and I'm happy to wait till the end of the month. He did say there had been a lot of interest in them but then that might have been a sales pitch :p

I've just seen a Virgin tariff, which included 500 mins to 08 numbers which would be excelent for work as I spend most of my time ringing 0845 and 0870 numbers.

£30 x12 =£360 for all my calls then a £459 for the phone with proper MS Exchange support and MS Office which won't need unlocking. Great for business use.

Wow free freephone numbers who would have thought!!

Edit: 1GB fair usage, bah

Went in for a sim free when it didnt work finally give in and went contract £100 up front £51 a month for unlt talk and txt 3gb data. £100 for my old smashed iphone4 and a code for a free wireless charger.

so actually doesnt work out much worse then buying sim free and using giffgaff except im limited to 3gb which i should be fine with anyway.

where was this this from? the online live chat just told me they do not have a fair usage policy on their tariff with unlimited allowance.

Has anyone tested a virgin sim in them?

Here perhaps?

Although it seems to have changed to 3GB:

7. Fair Usage: If your Contract Allowance provides unlimited data access within the UK this will be subject to a fair use limit of 3GB. If we think your use is excessive or that you are abusing the service we may ask you to moderate your usage and/or we reserve the right to charge you for the excessive element of your usage at the standard out of bundle data rate.

Am I missing something? That doesn't look like a good deal at all, £100 up front and with £51 per month:

12 month total £712
24 month total £1324

So for the contract you're paying £262 if it's 12 months and £874 if it's 24 month...

****ing hell, people have actually managed to get their hands on this mysterious phone!

Indeed and the annoying thing is how much easier it was to get one in a shop. You would think that mail order customers would get them shipped first as they are coming from a central warehouse.

No such luck :(
