You earn free currency by playing the game and use that currency to get champs. There is nothing a paying player can get that you can't apart from skins. Skins are a purely cosmetic visual

Aren't certain heroes restricted to monetary purchases for a certain time period?

Also that isn't really the same as getting the full playable content when starting the game, still would cost over a grand according to the poster above which is quite a lot :p.

How many games would it take to unlock it all via IP?

you get about 120IP a game (providing you win), generally 70IP for losing. you get a first win of the day bonus which nets about 250IP average.

ALL the champs have different IP prices but if you say most cost over 4800IP then it takes anywhere from 40-50 games to get a character.

Of course theres a lot of champs that are cheaper, but generally once you got the standard ones you tend to aim for the top teir characters and just play and save....which is the part of the reason why people keep coming back.

You also have to invest in runes aswell which stalls things in the champ department given that there costly.

I keep on saying to myself that i should just put in £5 per month in RP and just buy skins when I want - only ever brought one skin when I first got Fiora but I tend to chop and change my fav characters so much that it becomes pretty pointless.

People really play this and find unlocking heroes part of the reason to come back?

One thing about the Mobas genre, even LoL included to make me come back is the games are actually so fun and intense at times. Would be nice if it was just IP bonus to unlock skins.

Surprised no announcers have been introduced yet, any reason?

depends on your ELO surely? im sure its all fun and game at the top but where im from games are anything but intense most of the time.

i enjoy the game and do play it for the gameplay but its nice to have things to aim for in the form of champs etc.

Too many...I've played 1800+ games and have only bought a few champs with RP but I'm still missing maybe 25 champs, although I've spent a fair bit on runes but still wouldn't have them all :(

I'm trash at LoL, like level 7 or something? I come from HoN/DOTA so generally if i read what my skills do and someone tells me the items I need to go I can do fine, particularly considering how passive LoLs spells are. I played a few hundred games of HoN at a low PSR, still had a blast, you get put with people around your skill (usually.) and they can make the game unfun but worth it for those awesome intense games.

I've played around 3000 games and i've still got 12champs to unlock.

there was a time when I only needed 1-2 champs but I stopped playing for a few months and they add champs so fast :(

oh your not ranked yet? ok get to ranked and then come and say its all fun and games.
ranked is where the crazy people exist....

They won't have a patch on the Russians in Dota

Already met the 'I have lvl 30 acc do what I say' and they are god awful look forward to more

I'm highly sure I will receive a ban for my communication to my team from my recent ranked games.

Friend played a game last night who is 1250 ELO and I was spectating him, the AD carry must have been playing LoL Brail edition as he was so slow and blind and had max of 30 CS by 20 mins and he didn't know what CS was and why he needed it... Maybe a troll but he just pushed 24/7 and didn't give a monkeys about last hitting lol... Yea you got that stuff to look forward to, if you give first blood people going AFK, constant flaming.

Pretty much same as Dota but we got Russians too.

What is starting Elo? 1500?

1200 or 1250, you still get real mega derpas at around 1550-1600 too.

We got Russians too, and French, and Ze Germans and the Pollacks who transferred server -.-

Regional restrictions only affect certain areas of the world, which I suspect will be as restrictive or more so with other games - US<->EU is also not restricted so we have US players on EU and vice versa though the ping can be a killer

I really don't understand why people are playing this and not DoTA 2, it really is superior in every way possible, I tried playing a LoL game just now and didn't find it fun whatsoever. Do people actually enjoy grinding points/levels and spending money to unlock new heroes/runes? Do people really like the ugly graphics/interface, and the boring heroes/gameplay?

Everything about LoL feels so stagnant

Go post in the DotA 2 thread then. I don't go into the DotA 2 thread and post my negative thoughts about it. It would be nice it you could return the favour.

LoL is much more passive but it's way more chill and easier than Dota making it good for nights I'm not arsed with being enraged

It's a good game just don't agree with their business model or engine limitations

Also some of the graphics are pretty nice if you like the style, grew on me

Hahahahah, what the hell? I'm sure DotA has more heroes than LoL when it comes to skillshots. Pudge, invoker, mirana, clockwork, ancient apparition, leshrac, kunkka, windrunner, lion, nyx, batrider to name a few. All those heroes require skill to land a perfect shot.

And I don't understand, why do you have to feel the need to level up to get anywhere? Isn't playing the game, trying new things out and getting better at it the whole point of playing? I've played over 500 hours of DotA 2 and I'm getting better and learning new things all the time which keeps me coming back for more
