Probably in a river somewhere
Tomorrow I'm spending the day in Oxford with a friend, and I'm slightly worried that I'll get bored of looking at touristy university type places pretty quickly. So, people of OcUK, what interesting things are there to do in Oxford?

One back up plan is to find a decent pub and watch the rugby in the afternoon, so if anyone has some suggestions for that I'd appreciate it.

Thanks for the help!

Plenty of pubs in Oxford thats for sure, which also attract tourists for all sorts of reasons.

Other than that, I found Oxford quite boring, but others like what it has to offer.

Oxford is pretty dull to be fair, Ashmolean is worth a visit, and it's free

But pub wise, for sport 'The Head of the River' is great, and is pretty central to Oxford. Plenty of other nice pubs/bars too along George Street, which again, is all pretty central.

But yeah, Oxford is a dull place, if you're not into the university building stuff, there's not a lot to do

All I can suggest is going to the Turf Tavern. It's a nice, old pub where - apparently - Bill Clinton "didn't inhale".

The Turf is a fantastic pub, sells a load of amazing ales and ciders, also do great food. However it's tiny, and on weekends is rammed full of the Oxford students even during the day, getting a seat is near on impossible until very later on in the evening.

Won't be showing sports either

Yeah I went there, way over rated imo because of it's history... but it's a pub, so I didn't argue to much about going.

Also, as someone else said.. it's tiny and way over crowded due to students and it being the number 1 pub for tourists to visit.

City Centre is generally pretty boring cos it is only full of university and college buildings, other than the pubs your kinda stuffed for things to do.

Oxford is pretty much the stereotype of a university town, so if you aren't into architecture or academic related things then you're out of luck. Maybe check out the fine collection of shrunken heads at the Natural History/Pitt Rivers museum?

I'm sure others have better suggestions, but for a pub showing sport I would recommend The Royal Blenheim. It's near the centre but it's off a side street so it isn't usually too full. They also have a good selection of real ales on.

There was a lovely pub on the high street opposite 'Thorntons' ( or a choclate type vendor)
On a corner...great selection of ALE

As said, shrunken heads are worth a look. There's that market. Oxford's more of a camera trip than anything else.
