Hi I need a few games to occupy me on detachment for a few months. I like strategy, adventure, turn based, puzzle etc e.g. ROME, CIV, etc. I haven't bought a PC game for years since owning my PS3. My laptop isn't blinding however.

Windows rating: 3.2
Processor: Intel U4100 @ 1.3ghz
Gfx: Intel GMA 4500MHD
RAM: 3GB
Win 7 32 bit

What would you recommend as a good time cruncher?

If it will run [should do] and you don't mind old school pixel graphics, I recommend Resonance adventure game, Certainly different then most, taking control of up to 4 people at once and the story is pretty good with a nice twist

i think u have already mentioned some of the best games for your laptop,
ie. Rome Total War, Civ IV.
how about the Command and Conquer series of games?
Football Manager? i would go back to at least the 2009 version

Is that a bit like monkey island? If so, great! :D

Would it struggle with 2011/12?

Yea its like monkey island but sort of in its own league, still classic point and click though

I just found a little puzzle game that I am finding amazingly addictive called puzzle quest 2. It's like a mix of turn based RPG battle meets bejeweled. Its worth a look, as it eats hours.
Also it might be worth grabbing the humble bundle that's just come out, it's a pay what you want for a bunch of games that should all run on you laptop.

Dude, that isn't even mediocre I'm afraid, pretty much anything 3D from this side of 2000 is ruled out.

RPGs on SNES/Megadrive emulators?

Elder Scrolls Arena, Redguard and Daggerfall.

Maybe Morrowind, but I'm not too sure you'd run it as it was very poorly optimized back in the day, when this kind of spec would have been decent.
