Just found one of these in a box of bits I had and was wondering what it might handle if i put it in my spare box.

cpu will be 4600(3.2ghz) or q9650(4.6ghz) 2 gb ram

what games will play?

darksiders?
xcom?
avp?
batman?

Not much tbh they are designed for desktop use and video acceleration and not gaming tho they will handle older games ok.

I remember a friend of mine buying 2 for SLI thinking they would be as good as an 8800GT at the time. They couldn't play CoD 4 in sli.

I did laugh.

Back in the day when I was building media PCs I had a couple of 8500GT ready to go and a spare SLI board I'd pulled from another machine sitting around so I got bored and had a play... they did really well in COD4 in SLI and quite playable in ETQW at lower resolutions - unfortunatly the only screenshot I have is with a single card: http://aten-hosted.com/images/etqw8500GT.jpg

By the time I finished I had a pair of them in SLI with no SLI bridge even running at 830Mhz (nearly twice their default clock) and held the 3D Marks 06 WR for 8500GT SLI for quite awhile which strangely enough was quite a hotly contested record.

They were crazy OCing cards and I didn't even volt mod them or uprate the cooling just stuck the fans on 100%. Current WR for them is SLI GeForce 8500GT 256Mb DDR2 @ 850(2160)/1065 MHz (Vgpu=1.75V, Vmem=2.12V) at almost 40% higher than my score (tho 4.5+Gig i7 helps rather a lot against my then Core 2 Duo E6600 lol).

As an 8500GT owner, I can safely say its good for drop kicking into the sun....

iirc it even struggled with 1080p playback.

Should do 1080p fine using hardware acceleration and the right codec packs/player etc. as for gaming thats another story.

Was a very very long time ago since I tried 1080 play back on it, all I remember at the time was that it sucked, things may have improved dramatically since then...720p no problem however...

Very nice and very proud I bet :)

lol not so proud really as it was a bit of a whacky record to hold even then and just some spare bits I had lying around.
