Gaming PC for around £1000 - Help pls

Thanks again :) Do you think it's worth me stretching the budget and going for a BenQ XL2420T? They seem to keep being recommended as one of the best for gaming.
I went for the spec you originally quoted me but with the MSI Twin Frozr 3. Should arrive Monday!! :D

Awesome, thank Doomedspeed for that :D

I think it's a great gaming monitor, but not perhaps the best all-rounder in terms of image quality as mentioned by the guy in your other thread.
Some say that they find it a bit hard to look at for extended periods in day to day desktop stuff, but for gaming it's awesome.

Depends how picky/sensitive you are i guess.

From what I gather, you need to be pushing well over 60fps to get the full benefit of 120hz. Some say otherwise...

EDIT: The good news is that even if you couldn't take full advantage now, you'll still have a great gaming monitor and your spec allows you to add another 7950 at some point which will kick arse on that screen.

Thanks Doomedspeed! :D

I've decided on the XL2420T monitor, looking forward to this massive and long overdue upgrade :)

One more question though, (last one i promise) should i be overclocking the CPU and GPU?
I went for the 'i7-3770K 3.50GHz' CPU btw.

My pleasure,

Excellent monitor choice by the way.

You don't have to Overclock it, but you can easily, as that cooler is suberb. You should easily be able to get to 4.5Ghz.

You Can OC the GPU too.. Will gain a few more FPS..

Do you know where i can get tips on how best to do that safely?
I have OC'ed my current CPU by following youtube vids n such and it was pretty easy but I really don't want to get a brand new system and make any mistakes.

Avoid that corsair psu mate, i just built my new rig tonight with the 550w version and it popped on me. Other thread here about new builds not working that had the same problem.

Depends how far you want to clock really. Moderate OC's (say, 4-4.2ghz) can usually be done with a simple multiplier change in the bios.
More than that and it's best to get a bit more in depth with manual settings to avoid excessive auto voltage.

As for the GPU, for now you can just max out the sliders in catalyst control centre and leave it at stock voltage. Your card should be fine with that unless you've got a lemon.
If you want to go further than that, you can have a go at unlocking the voltage limits and squeezing more out of it.

It's not a difficult or dangerous procedure and all the help you need is available in the Graphics card sub-forum :)

Now, we want pics of the shiny new goodness :D
