Just put my sapphire 7970 card in and starting to try overclocking.

So far without any voltage increase I am running at 1200/1500 aand getting p10251 in 3damrk11.

I have a waterblock coming this week and then I will up the voltage but is 1200 good on stock volts?

Looks like my £199 bargain 7970 is going to be a good one!

Can't wait until the waterblock arrives.

What's the recommended max voltage to go to on 7970's?

Can you change the voltage on the memory, if so how?

What's the max voltage and target speed on the memory.

Sorry for all the questions, been Nvidia cards for the last 4 years so out of touch.

What's your stock voltage 1174mv?
1200 core is very good on that voltage, my top card dose 1150 on the same voltage, bottom card dose 1170 on 1134mv though =)

Memory voltage i'm not too sure, more people say only a few extra....if you're putting fullcover blocks on i dont think it will matter tbh, a good speed on memory is probably 1750 range?

1800 on the core? I think k you have your wires crossed.

On watercooling 1300 is certainly possible if you crank that voltage, perhaps even 1350mhz.

I'm sure I read somewhere someone had some insane cooling set-up and they were running this card at 1800 core. I might have misread and the 1800 might have been referring to the memory.

Hi Greebo,
Just installing my Sapphire 7970 too, I'm guessing the CD had out of date software on it, so did you download Catalyst Software Suite from AMD, 12.10 or 12.11 beta? How about the AMD Catalyst Application Profiles? Never had a modern AMD card to know about these drivers etc. I'm assuming you installed something along the lines of the above and then also installed Afterburner?

If you want best performance 12.11 Betas + 12.10 CAPs.

You should also read this thread for simple overclocking with MSI AB.

Hi, isnatlled everything from the cd then installed the 12.11 beta drivers over the top as they are meant to be ace!

Then afterburner.

I have found my max at default voltage and its 1221 so not bad. Will try for more when the water block is on.

Thanks guys, am going for the 12.11 Betas & 12.10 CAP 1 from AMD's site as the CD only has 12.8 on and doesn't mention W8. Will definitely need to read up on AB before getting too adventurous, cheers for the link Tonester0011. Judging by the file size am I right in thinking the 12.11 beta is more than just the driver or do I need to install the Catalyst Software Suite and then the beta driver download over the top?

When I first got my ref 7970 I had to use 1.25v to get 1200mhz, now after updating to GHZ bios and 12.11b6 I can run 1200/1650mhz at stock volts, card idles at 27c and maxes out in Heaven at 48c with all funs on low.

You should get 1.381v if you use trixx, should be safe enough once its under water to do some benching at that voltage, I wouldn't want to leave it that high for a 24/7 overclock though.

The max voltage for any cards is +.125mv from stock.

1200/1500 is about the best you can get at stock volts. I'd be surprised if you couldn't hit 1300Mhz on air.

The max the card I have left can do is 1235/1700 on 1.3 (1174 stock).
