Ex BBC DG George Entwistle Pay Off

Personally I think he was made a bit of scapegoat, but at head honcho he carries the can and at did the right thing.

IMHO The BBC desperately needs a proper shake up, this year its had nothing but negative press (and rightly so).
 
Every grilling i saw him get in various interviews have been cringeworthy, to deny knowing some of the things he was asked was quite shocking really, he sounded like a boss that locked himself in his office and switched off all news devices, TV's, computers, internet and stuck some earplugs in and sang la la la to himself so he didnt have to hear it all unfolding around him.

Being the scapegoat and a tough 2 months or not, he does not deserve that salary at all.
 
How did this guy become in charge of such a big organisation? He doesn't come across the slightest bit professional.
 
Head of the bbc was only on £450k... Hmm, interesting to know.

Yes, it is a lot compared to the common man, for his position though its not massive. That said BBC's revenue can't be that huge I guess...

There should be laws to prevent pay-offs.

I see no valid reason to finacially reward a person who's leaving an organisation unless it's redundance money.

Yes, and I certainly wouldn't be complaining if I were on that. But considering he's basically CEO of the BBC I was thinking he'd be on something similar to FTSE 100, but realistically BBC's turnover is nowhere near that...

1% of the uk are on around this or more. That puts about 600,000 on a similar wage

IIRC the DM's editor is paid far more than even the previous DG's salary before it was halved for GE's tenure (he was basically getting paid less than some of the small production companies the BBC uses).
 
Shock horror as yet again people fail to understand the idea that executive level positions often involve the trading of normal employment rights for severance packages to ensure people can easily be replaced.

Nothing Entwistle had done would be grounds for dismissal under employment law, that would be the newsnight staff involved.
 
I have a question: can anyone here see a newspaper editor resigning if they printed a false story? At the very least it shows a lot more honour exists in the BBC, along with the inability to do basic research.
