Indeed. It seems to be a mixture of phenomena which affect the game.
Snip.
This is a pretty good summary. Ok maybe 'scripting' is not entirely accurate, but if it's EA implementing some 'form' feature that tries to mimic random 'form' in real life then it sucks. The only variables should be the players you have, chemistry, formation/tactics, maybe weather and the player himself. It just takes any reward or satisfaction out of the game.
People who dismiss 'scripting/handicapping' by suggesting that we're just 'trying too hard', or 'forcing play'- so for example I go from 1st half where I'm leading 3-0, winning every header, making interceptions all over the place, to the 2nd half where the opponent suddenly wins every ball. Am I now trying 'too hard' to win headers...? Must be all the button mashing I'm doing in desperation...

And it's not even like I'm a sore loser, I can completely feel it when I have the advantage. It's so smooth. I'm making passes/scoring goals for fun. And when I'm being beaten fair and square, I can recognise when my opponent is superior to me, and I know when I've made mistakes to concede goals etc, the difference is clear.
