Well nokia chat is no help.

Louie Jane: Hi, my name is Louie Jane. Thank you for contacting Nokia Care Chat. How may I help you?
ME
Hi

Louie Jane
Hello there.

ME
I am inquiring about unlocking a handset.

ME
I purchased a phone sim free and it is still not working with my sim card

ME
does nokia them selves offer an unlocking service for a fee?

Louie Jane
I'll be more than happy to assist you with that one.

ME
ok great!

Louie Jane
Can I have your full name please?

ME
Sure my full names is James X

Louie Jane
Thank you, James. Do you happen to know the model of the phone?

ME
Yes it is a Lumia 920

Louie Jane
Thank you for that one, James. When you say unlocking code, do you mean a restriction code where you can configure the phone to use other services from other network operator, is that correct?

ME
Correct.

Louie Jane
I can see. With this one, restriction code is one of the services that your operator have. And apparently, Nokia does not generate any restriction code here.

ME
Oh, But as I bought it sim free who should i contact?

ME
I did not buy it with an operator, I paid £459 for the handset only.

Louie Jane
There are feature of the phone which is network dependent.

Louie Jane
Can you tell me where did you bought the phone?

ME
I want to use an o2 sim card with it. I purchased it from phones 4 u.

Louie Jane
I can see. As of the moment we are still waiting for a communication with regard to the availability of a Sim Free Lumia 920.

ME
But you make the Lumia 920, you are not able to provide me with an unlock code? If I asked an operator in the UK they ask you directly for a code so why can't I. I have paid for the handset outright. No ties to any network.

Louie Jane
I believe the phone which you purchased from phones for you are being lock to EE operator.

ME
But I was sold it as sim free. So there is no way you can unlock it at a cost, even though I have only paid for hardware., no network service.

Louie Jane
I understand how you feel right now. With this one, even the phone is unlock or not restriction code can only get from a certain network operator.

Louie Jane
James, would you mind to provide the IMEI number of your phone?

Louie Jane
So I can also check if it is really a restricted phone or not.

ME
Ok can you bare with me.

ME
I'm just getting it for you.

Louie Jane
Thank you.

ME
3541##############

Louie Jane
Great. Let me check this one here. Can I ask for a minute or two of your time?

ME
sure.

Louie Jane
Thank you. Please bear with me.

Louie Jane
Sorry to keep you waiting, James.

ME
No problem thanks for all your help.

Louie Jane
You're most welcome, James. Upon checking here, the phone is really restricted to EE network.

ME
Right ok, so is this something you are able to unlock?

Louie Jane
Apparently, Nokia don't have tools to removed the restriction of your phone. It is one of the services from a certain Network operator.

ME
Really? I can't see how that is correct as you apply the firmware and the lock. Do you work for nokia or are you out sourced, is there a number for a technical team I can contact?

Louie Jane
I can see why you feel that way, James.

Louie Jane
However, this phone is only available to retailer which is currently EE, because EE networkis the only operator which do support LTE (4G) as of this moment.

Louie Jane
And as I have mentioned to you earlier, we are still waiting for a communication with regard to the availability of a Sim Free Lumia 920.

Louie Jane
We are looking forward for this to be posted on the website very, very soon.

ME
So is it a hardware restriction which can't be removed?

Louie Jane
No. It is not something to do with the hardware.

Louie Jane
You can return it back to the retailer which you purchased it. Upon checking here, the phone Lumia 920 for SIM-free is not yet available. That will be posted soon on the website once, it is already available.

ME
Ok. No problem. Thanks for your help.

I regard it as one of those terms that doesn't have an official, 'legal', definition. (I'd be interested to know if it did.) But is widely regarded, in interweb land, to mean network unlocked.

Only now, a retailer that historically sold sim free phones (P4U) with no network lock, is now selling sim free which are. (It appears, to me, due to the confusion exhibited, they were unaware of this and it's not entirely their fault.)

My concern now is that this'll set a precedent.

It's just confusing. Awful Marketing. Poor Poor Poor from P4U. Nothing Nokia can do. They are not too blame for this UK release. The networks are the one that are being **** about it.

ok so I just got an email from cyberport. what and how do I do this?

Nokia have such a great product here and so it's a shame we have to go through all this hassle. The difference in audio quality between this and previous phones is amazing. It makes my old iPhone 4 sound like it was using an 8-bit codec or something lol.

I may have to re-rip some CDs using lossless as the codec in this is showing up the limitations of MP3.

They want proof of ID, not that uncommon for internet orders, it protects from chargebacks. Passport, proof of address and the end of the card you paid with.

I got this,

Scan/ copy ( or a good close picture will do) of you credit card ( the card you payed with) front and back ( black square box over all letter except the last 4 isnt it?)...and the back as well with the smaller security number completely blacked out.

Pass port page that part with yrou pic/ details etc.

So I purchased an unlocked Nokia promo phone from eBay for £530 including postage which turns out to be the same as from Clove so its not a bad price.

The seller already posted it out so I will have it tomorrow.

That will keep my satisfied until my 4G contract version with EE eventually arrives and then I'm pretty certain I'll be able to make my money back as it will still be incredibly difficult to get an unlocked white 920 in two weeks or whenever EE ship me that phone.

i managed to get 1 payg from ee today its locked but i will wait for unlock code its a black with a free charging plate and some headphone £390 inc £10 credit as i got £20 nhs discount

hi guys, ive been following whats going on and thought id join in.

first off I have the lumia 920 on preorder from t mobile (ordered on the 5th by phone).
I was assured that I would get it by the 16th of this month but after reading what been said on here I called them and they told me that they wont be getting them in the warehouse until the 16th!
since they are in shops already I asked if I could go and get one from a store and cancel my order he said I could but buy 1 first and then cancel just in case I cant find one.

so I called 5 ee stores and not one answered the phone (its crazy that stores that sell phones do not answer their phone!)

so I called P4U, told them the situation and they gave me several numbers for local stores and I called them all and the last one answered and told me they had them in stock and to come down.

when I got there they told me that I couldn't have it on the "full monty package" which is the exact oppisit as to what they said on the phone and what it says on line.

I spoke to a manager and they told me that he will try and put it through. they did a credit check (by the way the girl that was serving me was hot! Stratford P4U in the old mall, name was bee)
anyway the credit check went through fine and then they said it doesn't work and they cant sell it to me so i left empty handed :(

anyway i tried ee as well as it was close (westfield) they only had it on orange!!! the guy had 4 in this morning for t mobile but they went quickly.

and there u have it, so im still waiting on t mobile to deliver it :(
