Raymond's idea of landlord is probably closest. But you'd need a large amount of capital, and have to make sure stuffs well kept, if anything breaks you have to sort it out etc...

kd

You pay someone to sort it out :p

Get an agency to get tenants and show them around.

Get a maintenance company to fix things.

It's easy street if your properties are in demand, rent can cover the mortgage with ease and you have the capital to begin with.

Academic.

Seriously, you're doing research in an area you enjoy, with no set work pattern if you feel like just turning up to your office and jacking off all day long then you can. Obviously there is some effort required to get into a position like this.
