Hi,

I got my new gfx card on monday, installed it etc. overclocked it to 1000/1400.

Launched BF3, cranked it up to ultra. Fps when stood about was about 70 ish (in a room, not in the open) when in combat it dropped off to about 30.

I was kind of expecting it to be around 60 based on anandtech, is 30 a low fps to be getting from a 7950 in bf3?

Do you think my cpu is a bottleneck and could be causing this or is it just me expecting too much out of it :(

I say for sure it is a CPU bottleneck. Monitor your CPU in game and if it is hitting 75% it will start to impact on your GPU performance.

Good choice. I am not sure if you will need to flash the BIOS for that mobo and Stulid will confirm if you do.

Whatever way, good choice and simple to flash a BIOS.

100% a CPU bottleneck

The 3570k will be a very nice upgrade :)

With a Z77 board i'd be surprised if you needed to update your bios for an Ivy chip. Z68 is a different matter.

Was there not an issue with that motherboard and certain GFX cards, maybe even certain brands i.e. MSI ? That required a bios update.

As said Stulid will know.

wish id have bought the cpu when it was on offer now. At least the board is at the moment.

I don't mind flashing the bios if i have to, as long as i can get the most out of my gfx card :)

You will :) And you'll benefit elsewhere besides just games too
