Hi - Long time lurker - first time post

I would like to achieve an easy stable overclock (not too extreme) for CPU graphics rendering in Maya (I'm guessing Mental Ray should use all available cores).

Where do I start? Do I nudge up the cpu multiplier?
It's there a guide/forum post to overclocking the Phenom IIx6 1090T.

My specs

GA-880GM-USB3 motherboard

AMD Phenom IIx6 1090T

The cpu is air cooled and I think the fan has good air circulation.

thanks in advance

A good program to monitor temperatures & voltages is AMD Overdrive.

I had a 1090T until just recently, nice chips. I preferred to Overclock just with the multi. Since it doesn't put any strain on the rest of the system ie motherboard or RAM, it makes for any easy OC, with few parameters.

You really just have to change the multi & if necessary the volts, whilst monitoring the temps. AMD recommend to keep it below 62c full load.

Cinebench is good to test 100% load rendering.
You can also use Intel burn test for stress testing but this will push temps up higher than any real world usage, its a bit extreme.

For 24/7 use you should keeps the volts below 1.5, maybe limit to 1.45.
You might expect 3.8 - 4ghz with moderate voltages. At that speed it's a good render machine.

I would leave cool & quiet on, you don't want to be wasting electric when you don't need the power.

thanks Quixote

well I bumped my cpu clock ratio to x19 and cpb ratio to x20.5 = 3800mghz
and it BSOD of death when playing company of heroes

next it seemed stable with a clock ratio of x18 and cpb ratio of x19.5 = 3600mghz

I didn't touch the cpu voltage and this was set to auto (about 1.45?)

any tips to stop it crashing at 3800?

temps are still quite low

thanks

Try using CPU ratio 18x and changing the CPU Bus Frequency to 223 and see if that helps with stability.

You could try lowering the CPU voltage to 1.425v and change the CPU/NB Voltage to 1.300v.

my system runs stable and cool at 4ghz

ok tried this and the computer wouldn't even boot!

currently trying cpu ratio x 19 = 3800 ghz
cpb is disabled
everything else on auto
ran prime for 1.5 hrs and no errors and max temp of 50c with side of case removed

I will see if it survives company of heroes later
