Any hints of new cards?

Have given nVidia a go again, and just find I prefer AMD cards and software. It's more just niggly things rather than anything like raw performance. Never had any major driver issues with either, but there's just things I prefer AMD side.

So was looking at going back to a 7950, or two. But with it being half way through November I was wondering if there wasn't something literally just around the corner worth waiting for?

I am sure the boards are normally rife with rumours of new cards around this time, but have seen nothing yet...

Well the gk110 has surfaced in the form of a Tesla cards. Assuming they will then filter down to quadro and then down to geforce cards, these could offer a good improvement over gk104

I looked this up the other day as I was thinking of chopping in my 5850s for a 7950. It will be Q2 2013, so most likely June time.

I heard Q2 also, and that no-ones expecting massive performance gains from the next refresh anyway. Something in the region of 15%.

This is looking worse and worse. The Ivy Bridge processors are not that good IMO, the 600 series is crippled, the 7970's are good but not worth it from the 580's i use at the moment.

And to top it off, if the next gen stuff isnt a big step up either, i think it is going to a very bleak 2013 following from a poor 2012 *cries*

Rumours are almost always 6 months ahead of the game.

There is just no reason for AMD to release the new cards as all is well with the current line.

They might put the 8### series on the market for the holiday season next year. I would not have thought any sooner than that, unless Nvidia decide to jump in first this time.
I would not be at all surprised if AMD waited for Nvidia.

Doesn't bother me knowing my i7 920/7970 setup will be good for a while yet. Probably the longest I've gone without feeling the need for a core system upgrade!

Guess will just pick a 7950 from what available then.

Main thing that got me wondering really was that there seemed to be a lack of choices in the 7950/7970 line-up

There are rumours that nVidia have stockpiles of salvaged parts from k20 production and been hinted at there being a refresh of the 670 and 680 from this "soon". I've found nothing solid to back this up tho.

Rumour I've heard tho is one ~15% faster card with good availability and one ~30% faster that will essentially be a paper launch to retake performance crown but low availability and high price. (384bit memory bus, 2200-2400SP @ 1GHz with 225 TDP).

This is something weve seen in the past from nv, so you never know tbh. An example being a refresh of the gtx 280 with the 285.
