What free games can me and my friend play.

What are some free games that me and my friend can play co-operatively.

He likes RTS and FPS etc but is new to PC gaming so wouldn't do too well in a fast paced game such as COD or Quake Live.

Can't be too demanding either as the computer I have spare he would be playing on only has an Phenom II X2 560 BE and 5770.

Only game I can think of at the moment is Alien Swarm :confused:. I guess a F2P MMO would be nice but i've read LOTRO is skimpy on content for free to play past level 20.
 
Team Fortress 2 has a co-op mode now, but I haven't tried it so I'm not sure if it's teams or something you can play as a duo, but that is very fast paced so probably not the best suggestion either.
 
WOW is free to play for 25 ish levels I believe.

The Old Republic is going free to play anytime now. Not sure if that is just the subscription or both that and the actual game itself.

Not free, but you can normally get it really cheap. I highly recommend you get your friend to pick up Half Life 2 and download the Synergy mod. It allows you to play the full game in Co-Op mode and it works surprisingly well. Myself, son and daughter recently completed it as well as the episodes.

In fact what better way to introduce your friend to PC gaming.
