This post is whether the charges i pay are currently "in-line" with the offers out there at the moment. This is NOT an affordability thread (even though i appreciate your concern for my financial affairs:p)

Ok, currently charged the following:

Entertainment Extra with Sports and Movies HD - £64.75
ESPN - £10
Extra Subscription x 2 - £10.25 each
Sky + - FREE

Sky Broadband - £7.50

Sky Talk Line Rental - £14.50
Sky Anytime - £5.00

I have just rang up to cancel after YEARS of service and been told all they can offer me is line rental for 12 months for £3.00:rolleyes:

Anyone any thoughts?

Seems about right. The only offers you get really are when you're a new customer or haven't got a certain subscription. Since you've got them all, you'll not get any deals really.

You are getting A LOT of TV though remember. Though you have to ask whether that TV you have is worth paying for, if you find yourself not watching movies then get rid of it. You can always rent/pay-as-you-go movies on the box office.
I don't have Movies or Sport because i have Netflix and watch F1 and MotoGP. Bringing the total, including phone and internet to about £55 i think.
Sports is the big spend, if you watch a lot of football and or American sports then you'll be paying a lot more extra regardless.

I'm not sure that it would work but you could try cancelling every thing and stick with freeview for a month then go back and get some half price subscriptions for 3-6 months or something? But that's just a pain.

Yep, we left a couple of years ago because they couldnt help us with the cost and we'd had sky since the late 90's

Great advice mate, much appreciated.

How good is Netflix streaming to TV? Good idea rearding Movies as in all honesty dont watch them and Netflix is much cheaper. Also i have access to loads of movies via websites which download to our media player FOC.

Does the cancel for a month and re-join work for the discounts?

I think they're still doing a month for free, saying that my house mate got it to stop him spending so much on dvds and he seems happy with it.

You are paying the subscribed Sky charges.

However, i have never paid full price. What i do is call to cancel and either:

a. Be offered a better deal by the Sky operator.

b. See the cancellation through, get a Sky F&F code and resubscribe with wifes name, rinse and repeat with my name the following year and get EVERYTHING 50% off for the next 12 months.

You will get nothing as a regular customer as you keep on paying and don't make a fuss.

100% agreed.
If you sit there and just pay full price you will be forever more.
Ring them on 02071267020 (so you don't pay the premium rate) and cancel your sub. Ring them just before its due to be disconnected and ask them if theres anything they can do. I recently did this and I will now be charged 50% for the next 12 months and I can add omit packages @ 50% for this duration. I'm paying around £30 for HD+entertainment+sports.
