Ive had a look at VW, BMW and Landrover so far and I have a test drive arranged in a Yeti at the weekend. Although Mrs Jigger has said she will leave if we end up with a Skoda :p

The VW Tiguan is the best so far so unless the Yeti is amazing that looks like what I'll be getting. Anything else I should look at before hand?

Requirements. I'm looking for a car that I can use happily as a regular run about, but will also tow and deal with some light off road work with minimal running costs.

Budget: Lower the better as with everything but £20-£30k

Maybe some balls, it appears you may be missing some ;) When you say BMW, do you mean X1, X3 or X5? I'm presuming the first 2 but an idea of size and how much you're looking to spend might help a bit more - we don't know if this is new or 2nd hand etc...
 
The Yeti is a great car. Still miss ours from time to time. Got to have the right specification though.

You could look at the Mazda CX-5 as well. Bit bigger though.

What spec was your Yeti Lashout? Did you do much towing?

I'm thinking of a 140ps TDI 4x4 manual in SE or SE Plus spec.
 
You havent shared much about budget, requirements etc.. but for value for money SUVs these are doing well around here.

I think we only have the Kia, Mitsubishi and VW in the UK.

Dont quite understand the crossover thing myself. Just get the real thing instead, Its like the crossover but can actually do the stuff they only look like they can do.
Out of curiosity which freelander did you drive

Look very carefully at the towing capacities, these lighter crossover SUV's can have very limited towing limits. A proper car transporter can leave little weight for an actual car to be put on it.

As has been said get a proper vehicle for the job, or hire a Landy when you need to tow.

I was planning on picking up a Defender or Terrano for the job but it would be parked up 90% off the time. Plus I have a little Ford for running around in that I was about to change soon anyway.

Its a 2 birds with one stone car.

The VW has a max towing capacity of around 2250kg and the Yeti is rated at about 2050kg which is close but leaves me with a little spare.
 
heh ok, I was going to suggest the Grand Cherokee and then saw it was 37k!... I don't know much about the Compass though but the price was right..

and the Hyundai Tucsan is called an ix35 there apparently, the Santa Fe isn't bad either.
