Windows 8 The Verdicts ?

My first application conflict: Photoshop CS5 flickers and does weird stuff in windows 8. It still works fine, but the flickering and canvas colours changing intermittently is a bit ****. Updates in the works though apparently.

Little pop quiz here.

Would the upgrade advisor go through the whole process (checking the system and purchasing of the upgrade) of an upgrade on a unactivated copy of windows 7?

This is for my fathers computer which is currently running a not that legit copy of windows XP pro (and hasn't been since install) which isn't passing genuine advantage checks any more, and he's getting hacked off at the message he's getting on startup.
I thought it would be better to just upgrade the system to windows 8 instead of waiting in hope for a legit windows XP pro key to emerge, and since I'm not sure if the upgrade assistant would work on the XP install I decided to download a windows 7 image from digital river to do the upgrade process (although I'll have to back up his entire iTunes library along with any other files that are needed).

Little note here: I tried to google it, but it looks like my google-fu was weak this time if there already is an answer to this question.

So I take it that the answer to my question is no then.

Does this help, Azuse05?

Afraid not, even when running off a usb drive - that was my last resort.

I know the odds of it happening were minute, however the lack of functioning restore point when numerous people on technet have been saying it for a year is difficult to forgive :p

Yep most of that video is valid and covers most of the points why I've installed each release of Windows 8 since the beta and always hated Metro on a desktop.

The underlying OS is an improvement but MS need to stop smoking crack! Even Apple aren't this crazy forcing tablet stuff on desktop users!

Yawn....

Anyone used the new netflix update, finally an app that is far better than its rivals.
It makes me sad going back to the ipad app.
It actually makes browsing netflix kind of ok. Can at least find a load more stuff easily.
It's still not a brilliant UI but it is a massive step above all the other netflix UI.

Gosh do people actually subscribe to that?

Is the content good though and is there plenty of bandwidth on their servers, as this is where these services often fail to live up to expectations?

its very good, tons of content and i can game while my housemate streams in hd.

Netflix is great. Saved me a ton of money tbh (I don't pirate stuff)

The metro app is nice although not perfect. I find it somewhat slower than it should be pulling in thumbnails and closed captioning seems to make the image flicker for me a little.

What Newsreader App are we all using. I am really liking NewsBento at the moment. Easy to add RSS feeds. Good content delivery

The WOL and Remote Desktop apps work nicely. Little productivity apps like this are handy to get from the metro store as I can trust them without having to worry if they are legit. Does seem a bit silly when the WOL app has to take up the whole screen when there's so little information. Small apps should default to a side of the screen.
